I just bought a Burris scope (for My Model 70 Coyote Light .25 WSSM) with a "Ballistic Plex" and I'm a little confused how to make use of it- particularly if I want to sight it in a 200 yards.

On the Plex label for the .25-06 (which has the same ballistics as the 25 WSSM) there are seperate hash-marks for 100 and 200 yards- one below the other.  Then considerably lower are the hash-marks for 300, 400 & 500 yards. I canclearly see how to use the plex if I wanted to sight it in at 100 yards- I'd put the 'traditional' crosshair hash-mark on the tearget and fire and if I wanted to shoot at a target at one of the other ranges I'd just use the appropriate crosshair has-mark below it.

So, if I want to sight it in at 200 yards, which they say you can, which hash-mark do I use?  Do I use the top one- the 'traditional' crosshair?  Or do I just sight it in using the lower one labled 200 yards and then I can assume that it's also sighted in at 100 but I still use the same hash-marks as in the 100-yard setup?  This seems to kinda defeat the purpose as I wouldn't be able to make use, visually, of the outer lines of the plex EXCEPT at 100 yards- the very reason many people, like me, sight their guns in at 200 yards.

Can someone explain this to me please?

Thanks y'all!

For flatshooting calibers, you sight in at 200 yards using the crosshair.  Then the hashmarks below are for 300, 400 and 500 yards, and the top of the thick bottom post should be about right at 600yards.

If I remember correctly, your 25WSSM is less than an inch high at 100 yards if sighted in at 200yards, so you can comfortably use the crosshair at both 100 yards and 200 yards.

It only works at max magnification.

Of course, it all depends on the load (velocity/BC) you're using, as the trajectories will be slightly different, and the same load will have a different trajectory in different conditions as well. Remember these reticles are ballistic reticles, and r designed to be used with many different cartridges with "similar" trajectories, so u'll be hard-pressed to find 1 that fits the reticle perfectly. If your trajectory doesn't fit the reticle well, then it may help to try and zero for the 400 or 500 yd. stadia, then check the closer stadia zeros. They may be off by 1 or 2", but still be very close. Nulling out ballistic/ranging reticle zeros takes some time and thinking sometimes.
