How to test a scope?

Help please

I'm using Rem pump 308 with Leupold 4-14x50 III IR with 30 mm tube - only set me back 1200, but I think I've spent additional 500 on batteries for IR - keep forgetting to turn IR off all the time>>

I've started a little project - will be changing mounting system on my scope to a quick release, so I can have 2 scopes

An additional 4x32 in 25mm tube and on it will mount an external laser - for  my night shooting - I can not find half dissent mounting  for 30mm tube.

I’ve got a small selection of scopes all with the same spec Weaver – Leupold – Meopta and an old Zeiss all are 4 power scopes in 25mm tube

Can some one help me with tests instructions so  I can select the best scope  ??

Meopta and Zeiss will have the best glass which is what you will want for night shooting.  Just take them out in low light/night and see which one you can see the best with.

you need a set of quick detach rings to keep on the Leupold, then once mounted and sighted in remove it and then remount it, check and see how far you POI changes, do this several times to make sure that the change is repeatable enough you know where it will hit.  With quality quick detach rings your POI should be within 1MOA of your zero each time.

As far as testing the scope, take them all out in low light and see which one works best.

Shake it real hard and see if it breaks.  If it is a Leupold, it probably will.

If the Weaver is one of the old El Paso Weavers, It should show good preformance. I have a 3-9-B Weaver bought new in 1968 that preforms just under my Conquest. and better than a VX III Leupold. If they have been taken care of over the years they still work very well. At the time they were known to have some of the best glass.

The original El Passo K4 Weaver  Micro-trac is an extremely durrable and dependable rifle scope the companies centerpiece for years. There are thousands of them out there still in service.Look at how long they have lasted .While we are talking about all of those scopes out there that we hope are good, and that we hope will last the old El Passo Weaver has proven it. from the smallest to the largest game on the plannet to the armed forces, and law enfocement it has proven itself time and time again. Remember there are many wonderful scopes out there on the market new and used, but don't try to buy your marksmanship somtimes the basics along with proper training is all you need
