I've got to ship my Mossberg to them for some trigger work.
I KNOW TO HAVE IT UNLOADED
How do you ship a firearm? Is there a special box? Or do you just bubble wrap and find a box long enough?? Thanks--Bboy623

Don't label the box, just pack it secure.  Remove all "extras"  bases, rings, scope, sling, ect.  and just bubble wrap it up or something else to make sure it doesn't move around.  Its a long gun so it can go standard ground.

Mossberg is sending me a FedEx prepaid label (there and back)..I just have to box it. I didn't know what postal/shipping regulations there might be. I might give Fed Ex a call to see if they have boxes specificly for guns--Bboy623

you dont' need to do that.  Do you have the box it came in?  If not call the local stores there adn see if they have an empty box you can have.  I've gotten them from Dicks there off College before.  My buddy Eric still runs 1 stop Cop shop off market and I know he'd give you a box.

Best to put it  in an inexpensive plastic hard case then in a card board box, make sure you insure it!

Sounds like it's easier since it's going to the manufacturer. I've shipped two rifles - one I sold which had to go to an FFL dealer and the other to a restoration guy who had an FFL. I didn't mark the boxes but made a point of telling the UPS person what the contents were. BTW, although this one's going Fedex, if you ship UPS you can't use one the UPS Stores. It has to be an actual UPS shipping office.

You can actuallly still ship long guns at the post office.  Also a lot of gun stores will ship a gun for you and handle all of it.  You have to have it shipped back to an FFL dealer anyway, so I usually have the gun store ship them to the manufacturer.  Components like an upper reciever dont have the same restrictions as a lower reciever does.

If you ship it to the manufacture yourself, they can ship it back to you without going through an FFL dealer. But you and only you can and must sign for it. Other wise it is considered a transfer. I have done this with Wilson Combat, SIG Sauer, JP rifles and Springfield Amory. And using both UPS and FedEx.

Yep, that is true.  If it is your gun and you are just sending off for work they can ship it directly back to you.

I do the same whenever possible. I have shipped in the OEM box, wrapped in brown paper many times with no issues but would ship in a hard case inside a box if given the choice. I use USPS for long guns and UPS for handguns.

Just pack it and send it in.  If it's going back to the manufacturer I wouldn't worry about having an FFL.
