Does anyone know how to remove the Simmons Aetec Sunshade that the scope comes with?? The shade has a pretty bid dent on the end of it and I would like to remove and replace the entire sunshade. Is this possible, if so how? Thanks for your time. -Leo

Welcome to The OT!
Ok, are you asking HOW to remove the sunshade that's already on the scope? Most (all I've seen) sunshades screw on and off. Lefty loosy, righy tighty.
Or is the "big dent" preventing you from turning the sunshade?

Thanks for the welcome, yes the sunshade is already attached to the scope. I am having a hard time unscrewing the shade because it seems that whatever caused the dent also caused the shade to jump the screw threads (there is a gap between the scope and the shade on the impact side and the shade sits flush on the other side) I am goingto attach pictures so you can see what im talking about. But I guess since it is a threaded fit i will just have to get physical with the shade to get it off.

try a rope wrench used in PVC pipe work for the same reason, not to break any thing.

The strap wrench Dale suggested will provide more torque, for sure. Let us know what happens.

Wow, from the looks of that scope, somebody has tried to remove the sun shade with no luck! Maybe the old oil filter trick will work, poke a hole through it and pry on it with a screwdriver.

WOW!!
If you can get it off, I'd get some higher rings too, my friend. Looks like shes sitting too low now and touching the barrel.

The dent is distorting the male threads of the sunshade. If I were you, I would remove the scope from the rifle so you don't damage that. Then, using a very fine toothed hacksaw or better yet a jeweler's saw, cut the damaged part off about a half inch from the scope's objective bell. This may relieve the stress enough to get it to unscrew properly. You may need to carefully tap the side that jumped the threads back in to get the threads to re-engage before unscrewing it.
Don't apply heat. It's a male thread and will only expand with heat, making it tighter.
