just wondering how many of us take Toilet paper with us into the woods, and how many wind up a sock short?

This is a crappy topic but i'll add my  2cents.

I do take TP with me.I got cought with my paints down once apon a time and had to cut the tops of my socks off.it was a late night some pizza and alot of beer.I wasn't thinking about all the items i might need when getting up late with a ringing in my head and murphy and his laws showed up.I had an explotion after walking about 600 yards and needed the tops of my socks. so now TP in a zip lock bag is takin on ALL my hunting trips.

I'm sure we're not the only ones Bigdaddy, Law of averages what they are ya know.

Mexican is also off my menu during huntin season, some sounds aren't calls, some smells aren't cover scents.

Have enough experience now that I always go in prepared!  Most often too cold where we are to use clothing & wet leaves are a b$tch.  Also learned long ago that one piece long underwear is not especially convenient.

Guess for some of us it all depends on the size of the flaps!  Two piece much safer....

That technique would probably be very effective if you were hunting wild hogs!

Interesting topic!  My dad once unknowingly used poison ivy as TP... talk about a pain in the @ss!  After finding myself in a few very unpleasant "predicaments," I always bring along TP on every hunt!

OH YEAH,

I had one instance where I had to "clean up" in a creek in the middle of winter, 25 degrees.  TP a must take nowadays.

I ALLWAYS take TP with me, as it also serves a usefull purpose to mark the spot for recovering the animal. That is except when it is a messy one. Then I ALLWAYS seem to have forgotten the paper. I had to use leaves and sand once, only to find we were all gathering for breakfast in the veldt. I used the coffee to wash my hands, far away from everyone else!!!

8shots, that's a new technique for me! Was it decaf or regular?

Man, at that stage any coffee will do. And don't ask if I take one lump or two (lumps of sugar of course!)

1st thing to go in my backpack along with skeeter dope, water bottles, compass, extra cigarettes, chewing gum, my harmonica (deer are curious creatures), aspirin, dog lead, extra ammo (you never know), poncho, dry socks, and 2 moonpies (1 chocolate, 1 banana).

I travel light. What cannot go in my jacket and pants pockets stays behind. Hence not even water to wash my hands in an emergency. We are never further than about 4 hours from a vehicle, so I do not see the need for all the gear. I like to be mobile in the bush and do not want to worry about leaving things behind etc.

I normally carry 4 rounds in the rifle, 10 in my belt pouch and about another 5 spread in my pockets so they don't jingle. A knife, rangefinder and a camera make up the rest of the gear.

On some kudu hunts I will take a pair of binos. Oh, and the TP, do not forget!!!
