US Optics has been my "go to" scope(s) for the past few seasons and with no new models on the horizon in the higher magnification FFP ER/LR line I have been pondering my next scope.  My USO's are still running strong and doing work just fine and I keep running them for the following reasons ...

Spot on 100% tracking

Great FOV

Friendly eyebox

Tank like dependable

Those are the big reasons, the list is long, but those are the ones that are on the top of my list.  Glass discussions is kind of a moot point in my opinion when we get about the $2k mark.  I run these scopes in tactical UKD style steel matches.  I do not baby my equipment and expect to get what I pay for.  My 3.2-17 TPAL w/ GAP has been my benchmark scope for the past 4 years.  As rifles, powders, optics, bullets, and the sport gets even more precise I am looking to refine.  My 5 year old USO with a GAP reticle on 17x works great but on a 1/2 MOA target at 600 yards can be rough and some of these matches have some small targets and pushing to the end of KYL rack can be huge in the points.  I have shot and/or owned and put significant time behind Nightforce NXS models, Leupold Mark 4s, Vortex HDs, etc and the biggest takeaway for me has been how easy the USO is to get behind.  The eyebox is just there and you fall in behind the scope and get a nice sight picture.  FOV to see the conditions at the target are huge for me and I often shoot on lower power (12-15x) to keep that.  In the nice wide FOV department the Kahles K624 seems to crush all contenders.  For the Kahles owners out there ... on 20x and below do you have to hunt for the sweet spot?  Proper mounting and rifle setup of course is a given.  I have run NF F1s and Mark4s and a Mark6 and no matter what when Im shooting seated off a saddle or barricade etc I loose the target/FOV during recoil, some worse than others due to the eyebox being less forgiving.  With the USO I can usually spot my own rounds easy enough.

Feedback from some Optics Ninja's on this would be helpful.  I have only been able to get behind a K624 twice and neither instance afforded any quality time with the optic.  The FOV numbers and the MSR reticle almost have me sold.  I was really looking at a few other models in the heavy hitter brands but the FOV from the Kahles really puts it on the top of my short list.

This review should help you out. But the short is that it is very easy to get behind.

A few things to add to the link above - or emphasize.

1.  If you get one, make sure it is a gen2.  The gen1s had varying degrees of issue with CA and image softness at range.  Inside a few hundred yards, all was well; beyond a few hundred yards, you never could achieve a great focus.  It was far from unusable, but not what you would hope of a scope in that price range.

2.  Eye box is never great behind any >20X scope when run at max mag.  I have owned/used USO, mostly the 3.2-17 but a few others, and this is a little tighter than the 3.2-17 - assuming both at max magnification.

I have the Kahles (gen2) and love it.  I had a gen1 and liked it, just wasn't happy with the image beyond maybe 300 yards.  Gen2, no complains.

Keep in mind, I take most shots at about 15X, above is fine, I just don't prefer the things inherent to > 20X in field conditions.

That's solid info, thanks.  I also run usually in the 12-15x range.  The thing that is lacking in my current setup is the ability to really get a solid sight picture on a 3 inch round at 600 yards with a USO GAP on 17x.  The MSR reticle in the K624i seems to keep the pro's I like that I have with the USO but give me the ability to push it a little further and use 20-24 on those type targets, when im prone with a bipod etc.  I wouldn't be shooting barricade at that high of mag but you know where im going with this.  Sounds like I need to give Ken a call.
