I'm keep coming back to the Burris Black Diamond 6-24x50MM but my concern is how "close in" that the scope is acutally usable.  I know it may not be perfectly focused but is it feasible to use this scope for shots in the 10-15 yard range?  I can't find anything definitive about at what range it "focuses" .... other than that I think it pretty much meets all of my other "wants list"

The other scope that I keep going back to look at is the Leupold 6.5-20X40 VX-III E.F.R.  This one I know will focus in real close.  There's been enough posts about Leupold being "over priced" and "not the greatest glass" that I keep keep having second thoughts about that one.  Also, what it lacks for my liking is "side focus", "mil-dot" and that extra "5 power" for use at the target range. (the extra 5 is a personal preference)

I'm looking for something that works in close (I'd love 10 yards and beyond) and out fairly far (maybe 200 yards),  Mil-dot, finger adjustable knobs that come back to zero real easy and precisely, side focus, doesn't have to be 30mm (actually would like 1" but with side focus), nice glass .... any others that I need to look at?

BTW ... this will be for a .223 or .22-250 ... don't think that really makes that much difference

I also sent an E-Mail to Burris .... here's what I got back..

The 6x-24x Black Diamond will focus down to 60 yards and out to infinity.

It might be "usuable" in a little closer ... but that's a far cry from some of the "higher power" variables that focus down to 10 yards (ie: Leo EFR and Bushnell 4200 Elite)

If the Leupold does what you want, get it and don't worry about what we all say.  There are scopes that will be brighter or sharper, but if it won't focus that doesn't matter much.  VX III's are top quality scopes.

Burris use to make a Burris Signature 8-32x44mm RF/AR "Rim fire / Air rifle" It was also intended for the Air Rifle Shooters. It's parallax would adjust from 10 yards to 100 yards.

I still have one of these for one of my match shooting 22LR that I don't use anymore. It's a nice scope for the purpose of close range shooting.

I strongly prefer Leupold to Burris, and just about everyting else. If you want super glass look at Zeiss and look at  Nikon. Is it that much better NO. I have two VXIII scopes and two Mark 4 tacticals and they have great glass. What I dont understand here is if you want to shoot close range 10 yds why do you need 20x  or  24x.  Most of us here do not consider 200yds close. I mean really - I shoot a 45-70 pistol with a 1x scope at the 100 yd target and get good results. When you say 10 yds to 200 yds Im thinking:

6616 Nikon 1.5-6x42 Monarch Gold 30mm Riflescope Nikon 1.5-6x42 Monarch Gold 30mm Riflescope
  • Matte
  • Nikoplex
  • 30mm
SWFA: $599.95

Now when you say .223 to 22-250 Im thinking varmit rifle and the under 50 to 75 yds should not be a factor. If its a .223 assault rifle the Nikon above would be a fine choice but if it is a prarie dog gun forget the under 50yds and get this:

LEU57185 Leupold 8.5-25x50 VX-III 30mm Riflescope Leupold 8.5-25x50 VX-III 30mm Riflescope
  • Matte
  • Varmint Hunters
  • 30mm
  • Long Range
  • Target Knobs
  • Side Focus
  • Free 2.5" Sun Shade w/ Purchase
  • Index Matched Lens System
SWFA: $949.95

Or:

LEU57180 Leupold 6.5-20x50 VX-III 30mm Riflescope Leupold 6.5-20x50 VX-III 30mm Riflescope
  • Matte
  • Varmint Hunters
  • 30mm
  • Long Range
  • Target Knobs
  • Side Focus
  • Free 2.5" Sun Shade w/ Purchase
  • Index Matched Lens System
SWFA: $879.95

This one might be a nice compromise of features and price.
