Hi,

I'm looking for some quick release rings for the Weaver base #48201, it's a tip off base, by the way.

But there are horizontal slots cut into it which leads me to believe that it will take either Weaver or Picatinny rings and I'm wondering which?

And if it won't take one or the other, why does Weaver bother cutting the slots into it?

To compund the mystery, I saw some rings online described as "30mm Quick-Detach Rings, Low, Weaver/Picatinny."

How can a set of rings be "Weaver/Picatinny?" Aren't the slots different widths for Weaver and Picatinny?

Man, they don't make this easy!

Thanks.

Weaver bases will accept rings that are for weaver style rings only, they will not accept picatinny.

Picatinny will accept rings that are either weaver style or picatinny style.

Picatinny slots are wider than the weaver slots, thus the reason they will work with both.   Weaver slots originally were for the round bolts in weaver rings, so many of the older bases just used a round slot through them.  Now a lot of the weaver style bases have a squared out slot in them, but they will still only uses the smaller of the two.
