Would be among my first choice.  Have looked at the defender model and the 500 J.I.C. models as well.

Shot size taking into consideration over penetration of walls?

Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?

Lots of tact-I-cool, needs more prat-i-cal.  I'm not seeing any slings.  I'm not seeing any lights.  Most of this stuff is hard to work around corners with.

In the house a sling and a light and no brush catchers.  I'd stick with a pistol in one hand a knife in the other...

My biggest concern is a pistol grip on a Mossberg.  It is kind of hard to run a tang safety with a pistol grip, you have to break your firing grip every time you want to click it.  But I guess you could just leave it off all the time, that is probably what I would do once I picked it up, just let my finger be the safety.

I would slide your forward grip back a bit and add a LED light to the rail.  Sling is not really needed for a house gun, just something for the bad guy to grab a hold of if it gets to be a close fight.  If it is wrapped around your body then they can drag you around as well.

As far as a pistol, why use a ballistically inferior weapon that most people survive being shot by when you can use a rifle or shotgun.  That don't make much sense, pistols are weak and should be your backup not your primary weapon if you have a choice.

I don't need a flashlight on my gun, i know my house better than anyone else .In my view it gives them something to aim at(just my view)
I don't like a pistol grip on a shotgun so did the next best thing i put on a combo stock, best of both worlds i guess, with this stock i can reach the safety just about.

Its pretty important to identify your target that is what the light is for.  What if it is a family member or someone you know and you shoot them and do not identify who they are.  That would be horrible to have to live with.  The light is as important as the gun in a night shoot.

For moral and legal reasons you need the light to ID the target. Now it is not illegal , not to have the light, but in shooting; It can mean the differance between you going to jail or you staying in jail.  It's the 200 dollar an hour question.

My place is small.  There is not the room to move with a long gun.  Think contact distance.  Would you want to use the shotgun shown in an elevator or phone booth?

At some point you need to use your hands.  THATS why you need the sling

And that is a good point, but I still don't know.  We have trained with the slings on the rifles and having them attached in a house environment and when it became a close fight and the guy grabbed a hold of my gun he was able to toss me around like a rag doll.  He spun me around into wall and knocked me down and then pulled out his airsoft and shot me.  So there are definitely pros and cons to them, but based on that experience I chose not to go with it on my home gun.  If he would have gotten a hold of my rifle, that could have been bad to.  But I could have at least drew my backup weapon and put a couple rounds into him before he got the gun turned on me.  As the way it was he drew his gun as I was hitting the ground and shot me before I could regain composure.  Good learning experience for sure.

lights only tell the opponent your position, if you are going to use one its better to use it to look for dog bones, than identification. just reacting to a bump in the night with a weapon is pretty foolhardy.
library gun ------ 11-87 000  copper plated buck, 3" brenneke slugs.

Exactly how would you know who you are engaging then?  You've gotta be able to identify your target, there is no other option unless you just shoot and ask questions later.  Sure it gives away your position but what other option do you have.  It's one of the down sides to being the good guy.  Optimally it would be best to have a light switch that turns on all the lights in your house then you would be on equal ground as far as light and have the advantage because it is your house.  And hopefully have the advantage of proper use of tactics.

I can see you're point of view with having a light to identify a known/unknown persons, but it's just me and the wife, nobody else has keys or access to the house. Each to his own circumstances and environment.

My home defense weapon is about 5'2" with dark skin and black hair. I just wait for her to nag them into submission and shoot them with whatever I can find laying around when they're not looking. Of course I live in a "high crime" neighborhood. About the only option I have other than that would be a Ruger Red Label O/U 12ga. or Beretta 92fs. Kind of hard to drag around the short mag with a bipod and 4.5-14x scope in the house.

My philosophy is, if their on my main floor at night it's all theirs. If their foot hits the first step on the stairwell their other foot will not get to the second.  Abienient light will be plenty.

Unless you're from Great Britain, in which case, the correct spelling is with a "c."Wink

I keep a 20 guage mossberg pump with five rounds of buckshot  (deer slug barrel), but the dog is the one that determines if someone belongs there or not. If you dont belong there you will probably get tooth marks in your butt long before you have to worry about me.
