Thanks for your photos Ernie those are some very nice handguns.   Do you have  a favorite scope and calibler combination for long range.

Depends if I am using it for hunting or for steel/paper/prairie dogs.

For big game I like the 7mm or 338.
For other: 6mm, 6.5, and 7mm.

Same way you do when you are shooting a rifle, quality, high magnification optics.

Here, here!! Or until your spotter tells u u got it, little big brother--dontchya' know. I spotted for him when he got the 1590 yd. PD through a set of Big Eyes. Took 9 shots from a 6-284 XP/115 DTAC. Could see the vapor trail with every shot. Was pretty impressive when he got it. Fortunately the dog was a ways away from his mound and his entrails got stuck on a cactus. He flipped around for awhile and died. Man it was great!!

There is one other option for your buddy. Gene Davis power boosters have been developed for the Burris 3-12x, that can get as much as 14.5-17x out of it, depending on several factors. They also cut eye relief in half which is way better than the too long eye relief of the 3-12x @ 12x.

Ernie, if you don't stop posting pictures of those cool looking handguns, I am going to stop by for a visit!

Those just look fascinating!

I sold my 6.5Grendel AR upper, but I have a bunch of ammo, dies and components.  I think I'll make put a 6.5Grendel handgun on my list of projects.

This makes me want another Bullberry Encore Pistol barrel  HMMMMM   7mm08 possibly or 6.5x284 but  a .308 probably makes more sense for me.

Ilya--u really should get into these rigs some. Be interesting to read/hear about your research with optics on these handguns.

What I should do is try to talk some scope maker into making a high magnification rifle scope with a lot of eye relief.

Interestingly, at SHOT, I saw a prototype scope that was 3.5-24x50 and seemed to have at least 6 inches of eye relief.  Perhaps, I should ask that company if they plan to make that model.

I spent time with with two companies that was considering it-One spent about 40 minutes asking what I would want, but I have not seen any forward movement on it yet.  Like Steve said, small niche market

Nice job there friend.

I'm at the lower end of things, I'm using a Burris 3-12x32mm ballistic plex with E/dot on my marlin papoose 70PSS as a scout scope.
I have fitted the scope mount directly to the barrel by means of two machined 60deg dovetails.

I thought that this was the most powerful handgun scope that one could obtain until i read your post..

What sort of eye relief are you getting with these professional altered scope?

Also do you think that such a modified scope could be successfully used as a scout scope in your opinion.

best regards Ivan from Ireland..

PS My little marlin has a fold able butler creek stock fitted to a ramlin model 60 non-folding stock with some modification to get it all to work but it folds down into a little day bag and no body knows what I'm at-- cool gun for bunny bashing and i love it but your custom scopes have me intrigued

He is looking for a scope that is better than the BURRIS Signature 7x he would like to have 10-16x if possible or would like to know ho to get a "regular" riflescope to work but doesn't want to put his head 3-4 inches from...  He also wants something with a good FOV...

Your friend has several options:
#1 Purchase a Leupold 24x or 36x (preferably the BR "D") and then send it to  Waly Seibert, and he will convert it to a LER handgun scope.  I have one of the 36x's and it converts to about 20x.  I have made LR connections out to 1800 on a prairie dog on a 6.5-284 XP-100.
I have moved to rifle scopes on almost all of my single-shot specialty handguns, and have the 20x Leupold/Seibert scope for sale.

#2 Learn how to use a riflescope on a specialty handgun.  I use 5-20, 6.5-20, 8.5-25, and 8-32 power riflescopes on my specialty pistols chambered all the way up to a 338 Lapua Improved center-grip XP-100.

Here is some info on using riflescopes on SP's:
