Well I've been a reader for awhile but now I'm a member of this forum and looking forward to picking your brains with my rifle scope selection. I have a remington 700 30-06 with a very bad scope. At least a bad scope for the gun. I was looking at a few specific scopes. Fist the Vortex Viper PST FFP 4-16x50mm. I like the idea of the FFP and really like the reticle that is offered. But does anyone know if that reticle gets too thick at higher magnification. I was also looking at the Vortex Viper HS 4-16x 50mm LR with Dead-Hold BDC Reticle. It is not FFP but I do like the price a lot more. Last but not least would be the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50mm. The price is about the same as the Vortex PST but Bushnell has been around forever for a reason and Bushnell Elite I understand are some of the best of the best.

To help I hunt big game (ELK, Mule Deer, Antelope) and I am looking to reach out to 500+ yards. This will be the first higher end scope I've ever purchased so I'm looking for your guys knowledge and experience to help me out.

I also was looking at these two scopes.  If you are looking to reach out to 500+ Vortex can make Turrets that make this adjustment very easy and can match your factory load.  This would make the FFP on the PST null and could save you some money.  The PST is and HS compare about the same on optical quality.  The PST offers more windage adjustment but for me the 50 MOA that is offered by the HS is perfect.  Good luck on your decision!

Great. I'm leaning toward the HS. I am in the market for a spotting scope and will probably get the Vortex Razor since it has the super acromat. It is just an amazing scope for the money. If I buy an HS rifle scope that will in essence put me $400 ahead of the game.
