    Posted: July/03/2008 at 09:58

I would appreciate some feedback on scope options for my AR-10T.  The rifle is .308 and will be used for target shooting and possibly hunting.  I already have a Kahles Helia C 1.5-6x42 mounted in a LaRue SPR mount.  I am considering whether or not I should also purchase a different scope for target shooting at distances past 300 yards.  I doubt I will be shooting past 600 yards.

So, my question is for target shooting past 300 yards to a maximum of 600 yards, what magnification would you recommend and why?

Also, if I decide to go with a scope above 10x, would one of the Kahles 3-12x56 Multizero scopes be a good choice or should I add the additional $500 and purchase one of the new Kahles K418 scopes?  As you can tell, I prefer Kahles scopes.

One additional point, if I purchase a new scope, I can use the 1.5-6x42 on my AR-15, so I am not concerned about having to sell it.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions.
Kevin

I would go with a 2.5-10x42, with a mil dot type reticle and adjustable turrets.  Something like an IOR http://www.swfa.com/pc-10158-292-ior-25-10x42-tactical-30mm-rifle-scope.aspx
I have the metric version of this scope and it is a good scope.  Very good glass, repeatable.

your ar10t will make head shots out to 600 yds. , here are two set ups that work great
nxs 3.5x15 or a z6 for bowling pin type, fast 3 gun shooting.

WOW Dale I really like the Nightforce 3.5-15 for the AR-10 my poor low budget AR-10 has a 10x Super Sniper but I am a big fan of the Nightforce scopes unfortunately my budget has not gotten there yet. With this rifle I really feel you need tactical knobs to dial in correction for distance. The Nightforce or a U.S Optics scope or a Schmidt Bender would be first choice and second choice would be an IOR scope.  If I were to put a Kahles on it this is the one:

Thank you for the suggestions so far.  I too was thinking I might need target turrets, but what about getting a multi-zero scope from Kahles and dialing it into my most common ranges?

I put one of these http://www.swfa.com/pc-12613-1511-new-sightron-45-14x44-sii-big-sky-riflescope.aspx on my AR10A4, and it's working very well...

the z6 has the tds reticle and using the swaro on line gives bar zeros at 100, 268, 352 426 and 501 yd, its a lot faster than dial in especially on ukd. the swaro doesn't have a side focus, so the image quality is better than the NF

should add that neither the swaro or the kahles with the tds can be set for "common" ranges, it depends on the ballastic profile of the load, in this case 175 smk, 45 gr varget around 2600 fps.
