Help with scope choice: Swaro Z3 vs VX6 vs Zeiss HD5 vs Sightron SIII
Putting a new scope on a Finnlight I just picked up. I want to get something with good quality that I will be happy with for a while. My options are: Swaro Z3 vs VX6 vs Zeiss HD5 vs Sightron SIII. I would welcome feedback on any of these that you have had. Please elaborate on your thoughts, as "this one is my fav" or "I'm a Leupold guy" isn't that helpful:)

My hunting takes place in farm country, so long(ish) shots are frequently encountered and I shoot at my range out to 300.

All of those are very good scopes, so it comes down to what your priorities are in a scope.

Optically, the Z3, VX6, and HD5 will all be very close. So close that it will be splitting hairs and different people will have different opinions on which is best to their eyes. I have no experience with the Sightron scopes, so can't comment on the SIII and have no idea how it matches up against the other 3 series.

The Z3 will be the lightest.

The VX6 has the most zoom range and greater selection of reticles. It also has threaded ocular and objective housings to accept Leupold's very nice "Alumina" scope caps.

The HD5 has LotuTec hydrophobic lens coatings, which is handy to have in wet weather.

All 3 have essentially the same eye relief and are comparably priced.

You wouldn't make a mistake in choosing any of those 3, so it may come down to which one has a reticle you like best or how important things like weight and hydrophobic coatings are to you.

If BDC style reticles are your thing, I believe Zeiss has the best of the bunch in the Rapid-Z. I also like Zeiss's version of the plex perhaps the best of any standard plex reticle I've seen. Swaro's 4A reticle has nice bold posts that are nice and visible in low light conditions. The VX6 offers a Firedot illuminated reticle, which is very nice.
