Hi--I have a wide interest in rifles and scopes. I have a collection of sporterized swedish mausers and have been looking for some classic old scopes to put on them that look appropriate for them. With this in mind, I thought I was getting a great deal when I "won" a balvar b and l on ebay for 35$. However, I knew nothing about that scope. It arrived and I quickly noted that there was no windage or elevation controls on the scope. From that, I surmised that there was a special mount for the scope.

A few questions:

What would I need to mount this 2.5 x 8 B and L on my drilled and tapped swedish mauser? Where might I get an appropriate base for it? What is the qualitiy of these "Rochester" made scopes in general?

Guess I should have stuck with a weaver or gotten more redfields like I have already been getting... However, I will say, asside from the base issue, the scope looks to be super high quality.

I have never written on this forum before, so hope that my question is not out of place; if it is, will stick with questions on my Swfa SS with side mounted parallax, Leupy 20 power tactical, etc... and the other more contemporary scope issues I need addressed.

The old B&L is a great scope some of the best glass in its day. As you surmised, it takes a special base with the windage and elevation adjustments in the base its self. I have seen a few on ebay, but not for a small ring mauser. It could be hard to find. I believe that there were some othe bases as well Stith was one. Perhaps others will know more.
