Hi Men,

I am in the hunt for a scope for my .243.  I hunt primarily deer, coyote and woodchucks .  The scopes which I am looking at are:  Bushnell 3200 Elite, Burris Fullfield II, and Nikon Monarch - all in a 3x9x40.  I really don't do much low light hunting, nor do I hunt usually in wet weather.  Which would ye recommend?  Which is the brightest? Clearest? Strongest?

Finally, is there another scope that I should be considering?

Any input much appreciated.

Thanks -Ben.

I had a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40. It was a nice well made scope but I did not like the optics. It was blurry around the edges. I spent hours trying to focus it out, ended up sending it back for a full refund.Call me crazy but I was far more satisfied w/ my Simmons AETEC than the Elite 3200. I have the AETEC 3.8-12X44 on my .243 Deer/Coyote rifle. Never owned a Burris. I have had several Nikon Monarchs, never a single problem w/ them. I recently bought a Zeiss Conquest. It's hands down the brightest/clearest scope I have ever owned.

I have a Redfield Five Star 3-9 power which has been a great scope, clear/crisp, holds zero. I recently went out and shot my .243 for the first time in 4 yrs. I hammered some prarie dogs last week and had no issues with the scope. I made no adjustments to the scope prior to the first p-dog I sent flying. The only set back I personally have with the 3-9 power is not enough zoom for longer distance varmit shooting. I am currently looking into the cost for upgrading to a higher powered scope, 4-16 or 6-20 power. Good luck on you search.

Of the scopes you mention, go with the Monarch, though they are all good.  If you can afford it get a Zeiss Conquest.

I would throw the Weaver Grand Slam into the bunch. One of the biggest bang for you buck in a scope.

Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40

Out of the 3 scopes you listed the Monarch is the best followed by the Burris Fullfield II. I also would recommend the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 if it is in your price range.
