Hi Guys, i am new to this forum but am a member of several others.

I was reading a thread on Zeiss Conquest vs NXS and some others and have a similar question i need help with.

I have a custom built 308 on the way which has a Mark 4 8.5 - 25 on it.  I am getting rid of that because i want to go metric.

Use for the rifle - RANGE.  It will be a paper puncher (maybe the odd hunt but paper puncher)  I want to go out to 1000 metres with it and may attempt F-Class down the track.

I am really having trouble deciding between the following two scopes:

NXS 5.5-22x50 MRAD MLR

Zeiss Victory 6-24x56 T* (mildot or RapidZ thats another issue in itself)

I have been told to go with the Zeiss but am trying to get as many opinions as possible to make an informed decision.

If i go with the Zeiss, the Rapid Z ret, what do those hash marks up top and off to the side represent?  are they calibrated for yards or metres?

Thanks in advance guys.

6x24 is a long ways from the conquest-- and for what you want probably a better pick. the marker bars on both of these scopes are regular moa bars. a reticle such as the npr2 nf has 15 -- 2 moa markers giving you 30 moa elevation in the scope reticle before you even need to dial in any more, the zeiss does the same but it depends on which one you get as to how much is there, obviously the 1000 has the most. in the nf the markers for the npr2 in the horizontal are at 5 moa and corresponds to a 10 mph holdoff at 90 degrees at 500 yds. the Z reticles christmas tree reticles are progressive, they are all 5 mph at the distance of the bar they are on thus at greater range the bar is longer.

milrad makes a lot of sense when used in conjunction with a fire team , where everyone needs to be reading off the same sheet of music -even when everyone else is using a different magnification, but in your case-- target shooting, lone shooter, sfp there isn't any advantage-- but its your money.

Thanks Dale.

The reason why i want MRAD is because i am in Australia.  I know cm's ant m's not inches and yards and i know km's not miles.

So you think the Zeiss over the NXS?

in this case the zeiss over the nxs --yes this particular zeiss product is a work of art as is their 72s--- in long range shooting cm or inchs doesn't really mean anything in the practical sense of the definitions because the scope reticle and the eye cannot "resolve" or venier the differences, more "usable" is memorizing at different ranges such things as head width, chest width, fence post width for hold off, and in the vertical animal chest heights, tire rim hts, door ways (if your into government approved targets). hold off at long ranges is rarely dialed in as it changes from moment to moment
