 I've been lurking on here off and on for a while and can't seem to pick what I am looking for.

Just bought a Rem Model 7 in 7mm saum. It will be used mainly for deer, some antelope, some elk, and as a longer range slayer of coyotes.

Most of my deer hunting is in mixed country, mountains with meadows, fairly thick brush, and the occasional field. I took an antelope at about 350yds

this year and i only cranked my 4.5 x 14 VX-III up to 10x for that.

 I've been looking at the following:    Nightforce 2.5-10x24

                                                         Leupold LPS 2.5-10

                                                         Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10

                                                         Kahles C 2.5-10

I've read a fair amount about the Zeiss, and a little about the Kahles. Any thoughts on the Leupy or NF?

I assume the VXIII is on another rifle.  If not.  What is wrong with it?

Anyway, I still like the Bushnell 4200s and Sightron SIIs over your choices.  Just my opinion.

Great to have you here!  Welcome!

Of the scopes you mentioned, here's how I would rank them from the following catagories: optical clarity, reliability, and the ability to accomplish the tasks according to YOUR needs.

1) Kahles--probably the best when you consider the total package based on your needs.;

2) Nightforce--a very close second place.  Excellent glass;

3) Zeiss Conquest--very good quality & value.;

4) Leupold LPS--good scope but a poor value & optically inferior when compared to the scopes above.  Good warranty if you have a problem but you're going to want good glass if you'll be taking shots in excess of 300yds.

Just my opinion and I'm sure others will disagree .  Best of luck & let us know what you decide...

I'm not sure why you cut it down to these four scopes. I think that you would want a bright optic with as close to a 7mm exit pupil as possible.  look at these also.

6616 Nikon 1.5-6x42 Monarch Gold 30mm Riflescope Nikon 1.5-6x42 Monarch Gold 30mm Riflescope

  • Nikoplex
  • 30mm

  • Matte
  • Boone & Crockett
  • 1"

SWFA: $726.95

Of these I like the Trijicon for coyotes as it would work better at night. I like the Leupold VX-L best for large game at distance, And the 1.5-6x42 is a bright useful scope but a smaller overall package. How bright the scope is should be a big consideration.

 Cheaptrick and ceylonc... thanks for the welcome!

 Dolphin... the VXIII was on a Kimber Montana in 300 WSM. I bought it specifically for the antelope hunt and was relatively unimpressed with it. The reason is simply that anything over 10 power it seemed like i was crawling the stock to get a decent field of view. I played with the location of the scope on the receiver but couldn' find a happy medium for me. In some of the brushy areas around where I hunt, I have found that I really want something closer to 2-3x on the low end as well.

 Based on a little more info, I have ruled the LPS out. I had a chance to compare the Sightron to a Conquest today and to my eyes thers no contest. It's subjective and all but the Conquest was much clearer and brighter to my eyes.

 One of the reasons that I haven't looked too hard at the VX-L is I hunt in the wet. I went without scope caps one year based on that experience, I want flip up caps regardless. I'm not aware of any that are set up for the VX-L. If i'm wrong on that, please let me know where I can find some.

 Urimaginaryfrnd... How does the Nikon compare to the Kahles and the Nightforce? If they are quite close as far as brightness and repeatability, I could bump up my search for a new spotter soon.

 I also don't know anything at all about Trijicon.

 Thanks for the input so far guys. Keep it coming!!

First of all, welcome aboard. I have a Kimber 84M in 7-08 that I put a 2.5-8 Leupold on and it fits the rifle perfectly. Personally, I would not be looking to mount a scope with a 30mm tube on a Montana. The Kahles CL line you are considering have large ocular housings and can present mounting problems (close bolt lift when feeding). The Conquest would be a very nice choice, say in the 3.5-10x44 flavor. My favorites are the 4200's and I have 6 of them currently. Between the Conquest and 4200 it would be a tossup. As for the VX-L, I don't own any rifles that I dislike enough to curse their esthetic's with that much.

Hello Dvani01

I would go with the khales CL It is a very nice hunting scope with the optical and low light advantage over all the scopes listed.

The kahles is also very robust and has a great movement and reapeatability. You will need Medium to High 1" rings depending

on the model.

I have to agree with mr. finn, even though he has been rather flippant with me on other threads.  But, the Bushnell Elite 4200s are great scopes.  I only own one, but will buy more base on my experiece with it.  SWFA does have the Zeiss 3x9 marked down to 399.99 and 1 less x of power is not going to be that discernable, unless you want a larger objective.  You may appreciate the larger elevation adjument, which I assume the 3x9 has over the hight power brethren, but I would have to check.  Something to look into.

hmmm........

definitely like the kahles over the zeiss from my past experience.

but take a look at elite 4200's - they are unbeatable for the price.
