I am in need of a rifle scope and could use some advice.  I need a scope with a small objective lens with as much magnification as possible.  This scope will be mounted on a semi-auto so it must be durable as well.

So far I have narrowed it down to these.
Burris Short Mag  3-9x32 and  4-14x32

Leupold 3-9x33 VxII Ultralight EFR

Pentax3-9x32 Lightseeker SL

I have read mixed reviews on the Burris Short Mag scope, some say that the eye relief is very unforgiving, I duno.

Of these scopes or any ohers that may fit my needs what do you recommend??

The only question you should look at is if you need the EFR function or not. The EFR is for closer range focussing and pinpoit accuracy. So if it is going on a semi -auto, do you need this? It could slow you down as you need to re-focus it as your target distance changes.

The Leupold would serve you well, maybe just go for the one without EFR.

I had my Ruger Mini-30 rebuilt with a  heavy barrel and thus a larger barrel shroud.  My 3-9x40 scopes will no longer fit unless I go with higher rings, which I would like to avoid.
I will be using it for close range walk and stalk whitetails, paper punching and just plain fun.  This rifle will shoot sub MOA with handloads.  I do not need anything bigger than 3 or 4 for hunting, but I like the larger magnification for load development and target shooting.

Thanks

Burris makes the pentax. How about the 2.5x8x32 conquest with 4" eye relief?

Sightron makes a quality scope, the Sll and big sky are the two models I would recommend. Good tracking, clear and bright glass, one of the better warranties in the business. One of the better bang for the buck scopes out there. The optics would be better than the vxll leupold and as good or better than the lightseeker.
