I need a new scope for my new 300wsm a-bolt hunter. i am interested in a 4200 3-9x40 with balistic reticle or a nikon 3-9x40 monarch with the bdc reticle. wich scope is better and does the elite have enouph eye relief? thanks for your thoughts.

I dont think the 4200 Elite comes with a Ballistic reticle. I think it is just a standard multi-x reticle. Some adds list it with a Ballistic reticle but I heard it was a misprint. Only the 3200 3-9x40 has a Ballistic plex right now unless they just added it to the 4200 Elite series.

Thanks Phil.

The Monarchs my choice on this one (BDC), even though the 4200's glass will probably edge the Monarchs.

(But not by very much, Roy Finn.)

Like Dave44 mentioned, I don't think the 4200 comes with a ranging reticle.

I am a retard when it come to bushnell scopes i have never bought one even for a rim fire,  all though i am quite intriguied to buy one just to see if it is a durable optic tool or just an over priced bushnell banner!! so i am going to give a totally biased opinon because of that, buy the monarch!

I think Elite 4200 is a better scope than the Monarch.  However, it is not available with a trajectory compensating reticle.  On the other hand, for hunting with a fairly flat-shooting caliber like 300WSM, do you really need it?  If you do not expect to be taking 400 yard shots, go with the Elite 4200.  If you'll be shooting further out, Monarch with BDC reticle is a pretty good way to go.

I phoned busnell, you are correct. they have not made any with the ballistic reticle. the part number they released them under was supposed to have the ballistic reticle and some of the venders think that is what they have in stock. i hunt mule deer in wyoming and colorado and do indeed get some long shots. i bought this rifle to replace a remington 7stw sendaro that i just don't care to lug around at 10,000 feet anymore. and i hate to be sighted in 3+ inches high at 100. even with a range finder most missed shots out west are high. that is what has me interested in a balistic type reticle. i was thinking of a burris ff2 becase of their b-plex, unti i found this forum. i went to a local sports store and looked at the ff2 and do not care for the glass or the way the eyepiece turns to adjust the power. how do you use a pop open scope cover on that thing? the glass was ok in the center but bad near the edges, with almost a tunnel view on 9 power. and the rubber eyeguard was falling off of the scope right out of the box.
