I need a scope for a new rifle, a Remington 750 carbine in .308. It will only be used in deep woods hunting, with no shots over 150 yards, but close range, fast shots , will be common. I have narrowed my selection down to three, Leupold VarixIII 1.5-5, Weaver 1.5-5 Grand Slam, and Sightron SII Big Sky. All have a very large field of view at low power, which is what I'm looking for, but what about eye relief. I hate a scope that is very critical with eye relief. I am leaning toward the leupold because that is what I have experience with, although not this particular model. I hope you guys can help me decide.

if you are not shooting over 150 yards, have you considered a red dot sight instead?

This is what I'd go with: Plus there's a $50 rebate

I'd go with the Leupold with a heavy duplex.

You might also add the Leo vxii 1-4x20, this is alittle less expensive and comes highly recommended from cyborgs friend Liarry.

Bushnell has a 4200 series with a 4a illuminated reticle in your price range.  Acog has a GREAT scope for what you want, but is a bit out of the bracket you seem to indicate. Both of these will better on dark days. Leupold has some better reticle choices.  I'd get a 4a as I do not like a thick top cross hair blocking my view.  The trade off is even the new and improved Leupold are not as bright as hoped.

Many people find the Sightron to be brighter and clearer than the Leupold.  The same would be said for the Bushnell, but it will be a bit tigher in terms of eye relief.  Eye relief should not be a problem with the gun you are using, but I understand that shooting up and down hills means a bit more forgivness is needed.
