I have had a SS 10x for a year now and I really like it.  The only problem I have with it is I've doing a lot of 1000 yard shooting lately and the resolution isn't great at that range.  I like having a fixed power on this tac. rifle and I need 33 moa come up at a 1000.  What would be a good replacement scope for this type of shooting.  I don't want anything over 10x, and I want a mildot or hash mark reticle.  I want target turrets and would like to have a side focus if in an AO.  Thanks, Ben

Would that scope be a substantial improvement optically over the ss?

According to the scale, yes, IOR would be better optically than your Super Sniper.
IOR's a "7" and the SS is a "4".

Are you shooting known distances out to 1000 yards or are you milling them?

I just started shooting steel at unknown distances.  I have a Sendero in a 300 rum that I shoot 1500 with at known distances with a 5.5-25 nsx.  I like the nsx glass, but they don't make a ffp reticle.  I could probably go up to 1200.00 without my wife getting to upset, I want good glass and dependability.

I paid 1250.00 for my sfp nsx, so I would assume the ffp nsx will more than that.  How do the IOR's compare to the nsx?

I'll confirm the FFP Nightforce deal and let you know.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I understood a friend to say that they were offering a FFP scope this year sometime.

I like NF scopes.

I was asking a friend of mine about that too.  I live here in Idaho where NF are assembled.  They aren't saying anything publicly until the shotshow.  He said NF are raising there prices 15-20% for 2008.  That will put them out of my price range.

Bang for the buck...It's really hard to beat a IOR.

I like the look of the mp-8 reticle with the floating dot.  If the glass is clear I think it would make a nice tactical rifle scope.

I think if you are going to change scopes from a fixed 10x SS to something else to get something that is really significantly better you are going to have to spend in the $1000+ range and to me if you are going to spend that kind of money you should be getting a variable with more power than 10x on the high end unless you are shooting mostly under 300 yds. That price range is very competative as far as what is thought to be a good choice. One should look seriously at U.S. Optics and Nightforce, The Zeiss Diavari ( yes more but you are only likely to have one of these really high end scopes so at least consider those 2K scopes like this one:

I also think that the FFP scopes are a nice choice and recently put a Leupold 3.5-10x40 FFP Mark 4  on my rifle. Some people love Leupold and some dont, I know what kind of abuse they will take and keep working and they are not HUGE like a Nightforce not that I wouldnt  buy a 5.5-22 x56 Nightforce but it would take a bit to get accustomed to that huge objective.  Also noteworthy is the new soon to come out Buahnell 6500  in a 4.5-30 power what a power range and glass should be quite good for under 1K.  I'm shy of the lack of internal adjustment of the Nikon.  If the gun is a range gun only and doesnt have to be drug through the brush I might just find one of the Nightforce scopes and get it .  Some of these scopes are very very hard to find so dont think they are all readily available better call around to see what is actually available.
