I am looking to purchase a new scope for my 270wsm.  I am hunting whitetail deer in Alabama.  Probably will not be shooting over 300yds.  I have a budget of $600.  I have been looking at the Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x50.  I have also been looking at Zeiss scope also.  Any imput will be helpful as I am looking to make my purchase this week.

Thanks for the help in advance!!

VX-3 would be a better choice than a VX-III..... the Zeiss Conquest is always a very nice choice.

Zeiss Conquest would be great. Nothing wrong with the Leupold, but you will get more for your money in the Zeiss. What part of Alabama will you be hunting in? Thick, deep woods of the South, or bean fields of the black-belt area (Selma, Montgomery) or hill terrain of the N.E. part of the state?

A set of 1pc Talley's and this would work for you:

The new Leupold VX3 or Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 should be all you need. Both are excellent nice looking scopes.

If not shooting over 300 yards, I would say don't get the 50mm.  A 40 or 44 will be fine and will be less prone to grabbing brush as you move through the woods.

I would go with the Zeiss, more scope for the money.

A 3-9 Zeiss Conquest will leave you money left over for good mounts and ammo ( no scope in the world is good enough to replace trigger time and rounds down range.)  Get the Zeiss and all the different hunting loads you can find.  The gun will like some loads better than others and you gotta try as many as possible to find what it likes.

Conquest would be a good choice with the Rapid Z reticle.  I also really like the Leupold FX3 6x42 with the long range duplex it is a really tough scope with hold over marks and exceptionally bright. Another choice would be a Trijicon Accupoint with illuminated reticle and that is probably what I would want.
