I am mounting a FF II 4.5-14x on a Kimber .22 Varmint using Talley lights. The bases are in, shimmed, and lapped. I will be using this combo for .22 matches.
The rifle is sitting in the V's of my MTM Case Gard - solid setting. The table and MTM are level. Kimber has no flat surfaces. So I want to put the level on top of the bottom mounts. Will that work to level the rifle? I will then put the scope on top with the level on the elevation screw cap. Will this work?
Thanks.

Probably, but the elevation screw caps are not always level with the reticle, just one more thing to check.

This is what I use to make sure the rifle&scope are level. I use a piece of tape on the wall as a reference to adjust the scope till the reticle is level. Can look through a window and use a corner of a building, pole or what ever you can find if you can't don't have enough room in a house. Just make sure it is plumb first. Thanks. My biggest concern is to make sure the rifle is level first.

Agree. I tried different things too before I got this. This level makes sure that gun is level. If you get one, money well spent.

+2 on the EXD device. It will align your scope and barrel vertically and when the bubble is level the rifle is essentially uncanted
If you then level your reticle on a distant object then you have a level reticle when the rifle is uncanted.
The trick is to duplicate that in the field and shoot when the reticle is level. For that you need an anti-cant device. The one I like the best is the ScopLevel

I use the same type of line levels as Mr. Finn. Avail. at just about any hardware store at minimal cost. The flat level surface on my Kimber is the inside of the trigger guard since it won't fit under the scope on the basses. I like to keep one on the rifle while adjusting the scope so as to make sure I don't accidentally cant it.

We measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with a chainsaw.

Thanks. This is exactly what I ened up doing. I love the Elite 4200 in the photo (if I am not mistaken). I have a 2.5-10X on my custom 10/22 Target. It is awesome.
