I have purchased a Marlin 17VS rifle chambered in .17 HMR.  It came wih a Nikon scope that I cannot find any identifying information on, other than underneath is says Nikon, 1.5-4.5x20, 356119 (which I assume is the serial number) and finally Japan.

I have some pictures posted here:  https://imgur.com/a/9YFtEFT

Also, if i rotate the Eyepiece counter clockwise it begins to back off the scope very slowly.  I can then adjust what seems like the locking ring away from the magnification adjustment, however, I can never rotate the magnification ring/adjustment, with the numbering.  It just moves a tiny-tiny bit in each direction and stops.  I've backed off the eyepiece and the locking ring quite a bit and nothing changes.

I'm new to all of this, so I apologize if I'm referencing things incorrectly.  I've tried to find the scope model to further find instructions but I'm a bit dead in the water at the moment.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

To my old weary eyes the scope tube looks as it´s bent or is it an optical illusion? If bent, it may have frozen the magnification.

Can´t help you identify the scope, I´m no Nikon expert....

That scope would be the model immediately preceding the Nikon UCC which came out around 1996 or so.

The scope definitely looks bent downward. The receiver of the rifle appears straight.

Anyway, I'm assuming you bought the gun used. Toss the scope. It's bent and no good. Although it was a nice one.
