I have a buddy that has a Mossberg 935 turkey that he would like to put an optic on. Apparently the front fiber optic keeps falling off and he wants to put an optic of some sort on it. I don't know if the reciever is drilled and tapped for a rail or if there needs to be some sort of an adapter plate used. Anyway he is colorblind but can occasionally see red and sometimes he can see green. I guess it depends on the type of lighting he is in. I don't see how a red dot with a green option could really be used if he can't predict what color to use. Is there another type of optic that he could use that wouldn't be bulky and would work for turkey hunting?

Thanks,

Good point, I'm not sure he knows. But I imagine it would be $200 or less.

I think I'd be looking at a low-power rimfire scope since he can't see Red/Green.

A shotgun slug or turkey scope should work as well. See the Bushnell Trophy XLT shotgun scope.

I really like my Weaver RV7 rimfire scope.

All color blind is not the same. I'm color blind, but mostly I can't see red.

I went a got a Meprolight green Tru Dot for my Mossy 500. Easy to install and works really well. It doesn't matter if he cant discern "what color it is", it's the illumination that works the magic.

I killed about a dozen gobblers with a 935 before the elevator got too loose to do its job. 2 ounces of sixes through the ol' factory Ulti-Full is kind of hard to miss with out to fifty yards. Trick is it's not a super tight pattern, but has so many pellets it still gets it done.

Encourage him to keep his head down and just use the bead. Anything else introduces opportunities for fallibility in a system that is otherwise utterly reliable; excepting that sloppy elevator.

Your friend's best bet if he wants an optical sight is some sort of a 1x prism sight, like the Leupold Prismatic, which is unfortunately quite expensive.  There are a few cheaper ones on the market, but they are all set up in tall AR specific mounts.

Perhaps, there is some I am not aware of, though.

With red dot sights, a green illuminated one will stand out a little more for him.

Actually the suggestion about using the front bead is not too far off the mark. I spoke with him more today, apparently the reason he was looking into an optic was because he lost the front sight because it was held on with a magnet. I've never heard of this before, but that's what he said. I guess this is a 835 not a 935 if that matters. He really doesn't want to spend muck money, so I think he needs to find a new bead or fiber optic and I might end up drilling and tapping the rib to mount it to.

Thanks for the suggestions, if I can get a dedicated turkey gun I would put a dot on it. I thing the Leatherwood micro red dot would be nice.

I have one of these, it jumps around from my turkey gun to my dove gun to my duck gun. The magnet is hella strong and the fiber optic is bright. It is far less expensive than an optic and it works great - at least on a ribbed shotgun barrel.

Mine came with several fiber optic options, dot and triangle in both red and green.

Good option, and he won't be heartbroken if he loses it.
