Hi all,

I'm looking for a good pair of binoculars with a rangefinding reticle (not a laser or anything fancy). I'm interested in any bino less than $750 and would prefer a 50mm objective.

So far I see:

  • Leupold Mark 4 Tactical 10x50 (impression: compact, light, are optics good? i have TMR reticle on my MR/T riflescope)
  • Steiner Tactical/Military Series 7x50 or 10x50 (seems to be military standard, heavy)
  • IOR Valdada 7x40 2B/GA (similar to Steiner but cheaper)

I would be very interested to hear your thoughts about these binoculars, esp the Leupold and IORs with respect to optic quality and overall construction quality.

Thanks,
Pogeybait

If i were looking for a binocular with a reticle i would buy the 8x30 Hensoldt Ferro D16. They are available on famous bidding site for about $200.

It is the best military binocular ever made: light, small, sharp and bright beyod belief, and the optics are better than anything Leupold or Steiner will ever come up with. And tough, real tough. Optically they are superior to my Swarovski.

I take it that you want 50mm lenses because you want to use the binos in low light. Be aware that light transmission and quality of the glass and coatings count more than size of lenses when it comes to seing in low light.

IOR Valdada makes binoculars with rangefinding reticles.  They are on the heavy side, but very tough and the glass is excellent.  I have a 7x40 with a reticle, but I think they also make a 10x50 with a reticle.  Both are easily in your price range.
