I am in the process of purchasing a new rifle scope. I want a 3x12. I would like to have a dot reticle in with fine cross hairs. I like the nikon line, but not set on it.

Anybody know of any scopes that offer dot reticle, or can they be installed bt the manufactor?
I have a $450.00 limit.

I should add that this will be going on a  Winchester 7mm mauser. What something good in low light conditions.
Were can I find reviews or rating on scopes?

Thanks

You mean dot, not mil dot, correct?

The dot reticle with fine cross hair can be had in Leupold in a 4-12 VX-II. They are in your price range but may not be the best for low light. It is still a good scope.
None of the other scopes I would consider are available with the fine cross hair and dot. Which, this particular style of reticle is not very good for low light.
If you are willing to look at other reticles, better for low light, the choices open up considerably.
Welcome to O.T.

Thanks for the welcome.
I have a redfield 3x9 on my .234 it has fine cross hairs with a 1 small black dot. Is that mil dot?
I just purchased nikon 10x42 binoculars, they are much clearer and can see much better in low light conditions, than scope.
I am looking for something good in low light conditions, want the 3x12 range and a power ring that is fast and easy to use.
My range of shooting is 25 yards to 400 yards.
I like/need to get a very good look at what I am shooting (QDM).
Going on a winchester 7mm mauser bolt action.
What reticle is good for low light?

+1 Tahqua's comments. Fine crosshairs with a center dot would not be my first choice for low light performance. IMO, it's better to put your money into decent glass with heavier plex or #4 type reticle. Something like a Sightron Big Sky 3-12 X 42 with the plex or the HHR reticle is close to your price range (when you include the rebate being offered). Good luck on your selection.

Hi Whiteoak- you are right, yours is a dot, not a mildot.

The fine crosshair with the dot is the middle, that is characteristic, generally, of a reticle for target shooting, because it lets you see the target and background well. But the reticle cannot be seen well in the dark or against a dark background, so, generally, people use a regular duplex (or plex), a thick duplex, or a German #4 reticle with thick, dark, long stadia for seeing the reticle better in low light.

I personally prefer a well made duplex against a German #4, because it seems to me the #4 takes away too much of the image, but many, around here, like the #4 reticle better. You should probably have a look at different reticles in a dark part of the store, or have a look at some friends' scopes, to figure out what you like best, as this is a very significant decision in your buying process.

Hope this makes sense-
