Hi guys, I'm newbie here so if I'm posting in the wrong thread, sorry for that.

I'm new in this field and wondering what is the difference between "rifle" & "tactical"?
What criteria you should look at when you want to buy the best scope?

Thank you.

Welcome to the OT!

That is a very broad question both scopes you can hunt with but I think you will need much better turrets on the tactical for a variety of reasons that you wouldn't need for hunting!A short answer is that the Tactical scope is made out of stronger materials, larger tubes & has a side focus.Usually the reticals are totally different & offers more felexability.Hunting scopes are almost always lighter & are cheaper  for reasons mentioned above.I could spend 2 more hours on the differences between the 2 but I suggest you keep coming back & a lot more info will become evident as time goes by,This is just my opion.

If you want to do some serious reading from 1 of the best optics people in the world go to Ilyas Optics Thoughts, there is a world of knowledge there! Also I know people with more insight than myself will chime in...........Ernie

Hunting style/designed scopes typically with capped turrets, lightweight designed, bold reticles with limited destractions in it (holdover reticles are common due to holdover instead of dialing in while in the field), fixed parallax, & typically 1" tubes on the majority of them here in the US.

Tactical/target scopes are typically heavier and more robust controls, 30mm tubes to allow for more adjustment, purpose built/designed reticles for ranging, exposed turrets to dial in shots, adjustable parallax control, and I'm sure i'm forgetting some features.

This is not so say that all hunting scopes and all target scopes fit this generic description, just a very crude and quick description.

Are you looking at purchasing a scope? Budget? What will you use it for?  We can probably offer better advise if we know what you're after.

Tactical is often used just an advertising word. A word  that has nothing to do with the mechanics or precision built into the scope. More often refered as Tacticool.  Shocked

Adding "tactical" makes it more expensive.
