It's a great time to be an Aggie! None of us saw this season coming.

Congrats to Johnny!

It appears Johnny Man excels at public relations, as he does football.

Funny... even in my most optimistic, time-distorted recollections of my college years, I don't recall my "public relations" skills being quite that fruitful.

I was doing a lot of drinking then, Ric...it was definitely the latter, sometimes in the former. Ha!

On a more serious note Ted, wasn't Johnny a little more aloof with the media at the beginning of the season? Then he started speaking to them a bit more after the Bama game?

I think this may have helped him win the Heisman. NOT that I don't think he should have won it on his skills alone, but it seems to me the more speaking engagements he attended, the more the media warmed up to him. There is "was" a huge biased towards awarding the H to underclassman, until now. Wink

That's because Coach Kevin Sumlin has a policy that no underclassmen are allowed to speak to the media during the season. His belief is that this helps freshmen and sophomores concentrate on their performance and keep them grounded until they gain more experience and maturity...and to prevent a 19 year old kid from accidentally saying something stupid that could cause a PR problem for the school. The other issue was that Manziel had a past habit of getting into off the field troubles with drinking and fighting. He got arrested for fighting outside a bar right before the season. He promised Manziel's dad he'd counsel the boy on staying out of trouble and handling the attention of being a starting QB for a major college program. Sumlin is reportedly a very strict disciplinarian with his players.

Once it became apparent Manziel was a leading contender for the Heisman toward the end of the season, Sumlin permitted him to speak to the media because he knew this was an important element to his Heisman voting.
