I bought 2 of these http://swfa.com/Hawke-4x32-Sport-HD-Riflescope-P41165.aspx to put on my AK clones and really wasn't expecting much. I also ordered a http://swfa.com/Nikon-4x32-ProStaff-Classic-Rimfire-Scope-P42188.aspx  for my Father-in-law as a Christmas gift. I really have to say that the Nikon fared pretty poorly much to my surprise. It wasn't even close on contrast and clarity, the Hawke was way better.

I'm hoping to be able to test durability this weekend if the rain holds off. Based on optics alone, the Hawke smoked the Nikon. I hope they stay priced where they are, so I can buy more and gift them out next Christmas.

If God didn't want me to play with it, he'd of made my arms shorter.

NB . . . have you tested your Hawke 4x32 yet?  I would appreciate your overall evaluation once you've wrung it out.

I have the Nikon ProStaff 4x32 on a 10/22 and don't find the optics quite as bad as you did, but a decent 4x32 with AO for <$50 is calling to me.  Is it worth the money?

Thanks

Wasn't able to get to the range this weekend, but will soon. So far I am really impressed with the Hawke's and hope that they are durable.

I wasn't at all disappointed with the Nikon, but optically it really paled when compared to the Hawke.

How does the Hawke reticle compare to the Nikon for low light hunting in cover? Is it too thin for squirrels?

Thanks...

I've done quite a bit of looking through the scopes in low light, "been pretty cloudy here" and I don't think anyone would have issues with the reticle. The crosshairs are pretty beefy.

I've got one of the Burris Timberline scopes and to me the cross hairs on it are a tad thin, these are a bit thicker.

The AO on the Hawke is marked all the way down to 15 feet. I'd not be at all afraid to take it out hunting tree rats.

Is that Hawke rated for airguns?

How is the fit & finish, "feel" and quality of construction, Hawke vs. Nikon?

Construction quality:

I'd of given the edge to Nikon there. The Nikon felt heavier and more solid.

Airgun rated:

Dunno. Like I said, I've got em mounted on Saiga AK clones. 1 in .223 1 in 7.62 x 39 so if they hold up to the autoloaders there's a decent chance they might do well on a hard springer. With an ounce of luck I can fill in some blanks tomorrow. It's looking like we might actually see some winter weather here later in the week and going into next week. Soon as I know something I'll pass it on.

O.K. I was able to get to the range today briefly after work. Conditions were bad, misting rain, windy  and very over-cast.

I shot about 50 rounds of .223 at 50 yards. "it's an AK after all" Despite the conditions the scope performed pretty well. The adjustments were consistent, and the picture was clear. 5 rounds to get it zero'd and 45 shots without losing zero. So far I'm pretty pleased. Thunbs Up
