Hawke Sapphire 8x25 Impressions
|Post Reply Topic Search Topic Options|
I recently purchased the Hawk Sapphire 8x25 ED pocket binos. The only compact bino I have to compare these to are an early 1980s Nikon 9x25 reverse porro - which were actually quite nice in their day (its obvious that the lens coatings aren't up to today's standards however). This won't be an in depth technical review, but I haven't seen many comments on these binos so I thought I would atleast post some impressions and answer any questions people might have.
I like these binoculars quite a bit. I wanted a very small pair to take to sporting events, and these are very small and light. Eye relief is long and the specs seem accurate. I use the eye cups twisted all the way out, and I don't wear glasses. IPD is a bit touchy to get adjusted, but once you've got it set...I don't really have many issues with blackouts. Color saturation seems quite good and the view is sharp all the way to the edges (about as far as you can tell, 90+% of the FOV, with a compact it gets difficult).
The focus is a bit stiff and inconsistent in resistance. The diopter works fine.
I don't have any alpha level glass to compare these to, so I really have no idea how they stack up to the Zeiss, SV, or Leicas (or even the Alpen Wings). Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer...
