Are these a rebadged Zen Ray Prime HD? They have the field flattner lense technology to go along with ED Glass - These really intrigue me especially for sub $600.00...

I currenlty have a pair of ZR 10X43 ED3, Does anyone think there may be enough optical difference to upgrade to the Hawke? Is it an upgrade?

I ask because after looking through a pair of Swarovision with field flatteing lenses, I may be ruined. If the hawkes are say 95-98% of those for under 600 hundred, I am all in!!!

No the Prime HD is somewhat different.  It looks to be a fair bit more compact.  Zen Ray was looking at a design that looked very much like the Hawke Panorama, they even printed it up in a color product catalog.  They were then confronted by two things that they felt could never be fixed with that design, otherwise it would have been on the market already.  I am not going to say what, as maybe Hawke will get them fixed.  In the process of looking for a fix, Zen Ray came up with the current Prime design.

They will be similar in their approach to sharper edge and flatter field.  I am pretty sure both will draw the inevitable Swarovision comparison.  The Prime should be ready for pre order next month for March delivery.  I have no idea about the Hawke,

Would you consider the Prime or The Hawke an upgrade from the ED3??? I am just about ready to pull the trigger on the Hawke but can't find a review to save my life.

I doubt any Panorama are available yet.  I see SWFA lets you into the checkout process, but they don't say they are actually in stock.  But the reason you have not seen a Panorama review is that they are not out there to be reviewed yet.  Nobody can review what they haven't seen.  Either that or the reviews are waiting publication.  If they were out there, forums would have reviews, trust me.

The Prime HD is designed to be an upgrade to the ED 3, specifically in regards to edge sharpness and flatness of field.  Better quality glass as well.

You can order the Prime next month nad get it in March.  I doubt you can actually buy a Panorama before then anyway.

Take a deep breath and relax Big Smile.

While you are relaxing I would suggest that you send off for a 2012 Zen Ray binoculars catalog, that way you can read up on the Prime HD, and other models. Big Grin

That would only add to the dillemma Stan,as the catalog shows the Prime that looks like the Panorama, not the Prime as it will really look like.  I bet ZR wishes they had that catalog back...or maybe they changed it and had another one.  Anyway, mine has the Panorama look alike.  Big Smile

What about the specifications, in the catalog, for the Prime HD?
Will they be changed as well?

The final Prime HD is shorter and more compact.  FOV is the same, as is the weight (I think).

Hopefully they will have a new catalog by March 2012.

I've been emailing Hawke about the Panorama's. He said they'll should be available in this spring. They haven't been able to give me any specs on it yet. The rep said they have only seen only seen prototypes. He says its going to be their best bino they have to offer.
