Measure the overall length of several of the cartridges your having issues with. Nosler is who makes the actual bullet for the that particular brand. It shouldn't be longer than 3.320 it could me a bit less than that though. Factory ammo is typically shorter so that it will chamber in all rifles. If all your ammo is less than that length, it's probably a rifle issue.

Just checked good vs bad with the calipers. I got:

Bad OAL: 3.327 and 3.325(another obvioulsy pulled out a little from the case and was 3.334)
Good OAL: 3.306 and 3.305

All diameters were .305-.306
All case lengths are 2.483-2.487

Checked 37 shells and found 26 good and 11 bad so far. Have another box to sort through.

Actually your "bad" are within SAAMI specs of 2.940 to 3.340.

Have all the rounds you've measured been chambered?

Looks like the ammo may be fine.  Figures you've posted are within specs although the bullets should read .308-.309 but the ogive may be at or below the neck.

I was asking around and someone asked if you may have taken the bolt apart at any time.

I haven't taken it apart. I did send it back when I first got it..... twice. They replaced the magazine, re-crowned the barrel, adjusted the trigger, and replaced the extractor. It still never has ejected shells very well. Man, this is going to be a learning experience.....

Yep,there's been alot of technical terms tossed around trying to figure the problem out but if your into firearms they're terms you should get familiar with.  What really needs to be done is to contact Cooper, talk to a C/S rep,and get the rifle back to them and let them straighten it out.  PLUS fix the ejection problem.  You paid good money for it.  Cooper is known for good quality and customer service.

300S&W speaks the true!!!  We all learn something too, everyday.
I had assumed the 30-06 was a rimmed casing and indexed off the rim and not the shoulder...how embarassing.  The thing to know about guns to keep yourself alive and whole....don't assume anything!!!  There is a wealth of knowledge here and on the internet but it's always best to check the facts from more than one source.

Here's another term for ya....meplat....(part of the bullet)  It's amazing teh science thats behind current day bullets, propellants and guns.  We've coming a long way from making lead balls by dropping molten lead from tall shot towers.....
"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading".

Well, I am going to contact Cooper and see about sending it in again. I think you guys are right and that's the best route to go.

I started looking into reloading recently and while I think it looks super interesting and something I would like, it's pretty intimidating not knowing much at all when you really get down to it. And unfortunately, by nature,I am not a very anal person. I am a " awe that's close enough" guy. I doubt that works well for re-loading !

Thanks for all the help guys, I will update you guys on how it's working out !

  HEY cbm,
GLAD your going to contact them.  I'm sure they'll take of you.

As far as reloading goes don't be intimidated.  Your knowing how to use calipers is a big step in staying safe. It can be as complicated as you want to make it.  Figure, all your doing is:
   - removing the primer and cleaning the pocket
   - after wiping it clean, lubing and resizing the case, then wiping off the lube
   - checking it for proper length, trimming if necessary, and deburring if you trim
   - seating a new primer
   - weighing or dipping a powder charge and putting it in the case
   - seating a bullet in the case to it's proper depth
   - go shoot something and do it again

i find it therapeutic to be real honest with you, and the rewarding part comes when you knock down that trophy buck or shoot a tiny group. thats the part that gets addicting, chasing that impossible group, its like a drug, an obsession. its fun if you ask me...

I should probably look into reloading more, I need something else to torture me besides Golf ! Big Grin

I basically have a backwards hunting progression. I started deer hunting at 24-25 and went straight into bowhunted exclusively for 12 years before I bought a deer rifle 6 years ago.I thought gun hunting was too easy before I even really started ! Go figure! Loco

Boxing it up to send it back in. They believe there is a possible free bore issue. They also said they have changed the "ejection system " since my rifle was last in their shop. More than likely they will replace the bolt and rechamber the barrel. I decided to get them to Cerakote while it's in there !!
Hopefully it will be like a new gun when I get it back !!
