Has anyone ordered optics from xxxxxxx.com?  They sent me their recent Spring Specials flier via email.  They have the:

  • Pentax SP 8x43 for $424.99
  • Minox BD 8.5x42 for $449.99

I have heard on this board before about be weary ordering optics from a New York Company.  Just wanted to know your thoughts.  Thank you in advance for your time!

Would SWFA match the price?  I would rather buy from them!

Whether well-deserved or not, the New York camera companies have developed a reputation for being... somewhat shady.  If you buy from one, you are simply accepting that risk.  There's no gaurantee that you will get burned but, you've been warned so, if you do get burned, you will have no cause to complain.

You also should be aware that the super low prices you might find at some of these shops come as a result of the items being sold on the  "grey market." (Which means that allthough there is nothing illegal in the sale, the products were not intended by the manufacturer to be sold in this market and/or by the particular vendor.)  This generally means that you will forfeit any claim to any kind of warranty service.

SWFA's price match is pretty well covered on the Riflescopes.com website.  In short, it says that they will match any legitimate price on an identical item being sold by another legitimate (authorized) dealer.  Grey market prices don't qualify, nor should they.  If you have any question about a particular dealer, product, or price, give SWFA a call and they will happily answer your specific inquiry.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about. The only thing they have in common with the "shady" New York hucksters is an area code. They deal in only USA warrantied goods and the owner is a man of his word. They ship DHL (usually included in the quoted price) and chances are you'll have the item in hand within about 3-days of placing an order.

As far as SWFA's price match goes, their policy has so many holes you could drive a truck through it. I've tried three times over the past few years to get them to price match from authorized US dealers and there's always a catch. In fact, I've often wondered how they stay afloat. Only thing I can figure is there must be lots of people out there who don't comparison shop or ask around.

If you want the scoop on xxxx., go to www.xxxxxxxxx.com and do a search in the optics forum. You'll find a whole bunch of satisfied customers.....

Thanks Buster1!  I emailed him and he was SUPER NICE!  I asked him about the 2 pairs of binoculars I was looking at and which one would he chose.  He gave me his opinion and told me if I didn't like him just send the binoculars back and get the other pair.  He was also quick in replying to emails!  Thanks again!

If they are and authorized dealer and have the item in stock, SWFA will match the price.  They have come through for me many times.  The only time they refused was when an item wasn't in stock, and I can't argue with that.

Besides, I'd much rather deal with the folks in Texas.  Me and those new yorkers don't speak the same language

cropslx and Buster,

How about a little respect when you are in our house?  We don't have many rules here and have not needed to for the most part because "most" of our members are polite and respectful.

It's obvious Buster does not care for us, so why even come here and post?  After reading all of your post on The O.T., 99% of them are ads for the above mentioned NY Camera house.....it would appear that you are associated with them.

Our policy is not full of holes, its actually very simple and straight forward as Lucznik pointed out.

I edited your two post for the obvious reason that we do not allow promotion of our competitors.

People reading this might wonder why we just don't delete the whole thing and the reason is that we take the good with the bad and made a decision when we launched The O.T. to not be like the other "overly moderated" forums on the net.  We basically just have one rule.  Don't use our site to promote our competition.

I am unaware of any NY "camera house" that people don't have problems with.  Grey market is just one issue among many.  Counterfeit goods, stripped down models with no case or covers, refurbs being sold as new, etc.  One of their biggest scams is to just deposit your money and never ship anything....then take a month or two to refund you (interest free loan).

Read the comments on this site and you'll understand how these NY camera houses operate:
