Thanks all around!  Im sorry to hear about your mishap sarge.  Hopefully, you'll only miss this season!  Hopefully, you'll be ready by the time turkeys roll around, or better yet, start hunting rabbits after the deer season ends!  Hate to hear that anyone has to go under the knife.....
And thanks for noticing the hat SChunter, both of us in that pic are grads!

Antleraddiction, those are some "hosses" you got there!  Where is Gage county in relation to Nebraska City?

Shocked Don't say things like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fugure another 10-12 days in the house and even my wife will be willin to drive me to the club and drop me off. No! No! I don't know how long I'll be laid up after friday, but unless they want the second phase right after I'll be sittin somewhere with my finger "Pressin " on the dispatch of a deer.

Antleraddiction, Great job! I'm proud for you! Alittle envious too. We've got a few like that here, but my chances may have evaporated this yr. Maybe!!! cause I have had some real good luck in late December in past seasons. Keep up the good work!!

I don't know what to do with myself.   I passed on the first 3 deer I have seen this year.  I am beginning to think my wife and daughters are impacting my ability to hunt.  First day of gun season, 1 hour before dark, 3 does walk out and ( I was "stand" hunting one of the few times I have ever done so) and just browsed around until I finally "whoooofed" at them several times to make them move off after it got dark.  I have passed on deer before, many times, but never the first day.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME????????? I need to watch Friday the 13th,  Halloween or SAW i, II, III or something to get my head straight.  I can't believe I did that.
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

you know the old saying about "Huntin' Horns"!!!   You can bake'm, Microwave'em, fry'em or broil'em BUT ya can't eat'em.  Hunt horns AFTER you put meat in the freezer!!!

Don't beat yourself up, We've all done it once or twice over the yrs. Either because you know there is a good buck there and you want to wait on him or you may have had stuff layin heavy on your mind and that kept you from adding more to your to-do list at the time. Just go first chance you get and pick the most mature doe in the bunch and fill a tag. All is well and your ready for the rest of the season. Good Luck Buddy!

Well, I finally get to add my name to the harvest report!  Been a dry season for the most part and not seeing a lot of animals.  I took my cousins from Texas (first hunt ever for them) out and shot a small muley buck so they could experience it.  My youngest cousin (girl) wanted to gut the deer, so I let her.  I was so proud of her to go at it like that. Big Smile  Had a great time, and have some meat now!

Good new is they are extending the elk season where I live, so I still have a chance to get one, even if it is a cow!

To be prepared for War is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.

Killed a screwy racked cull buck this morning with my .223 XCR compact(64 grn Win. power point). About 100 yrd shot through the heart, he went about 60 yrds and piled up ! Wind was blowing about 25 mph half the time......didn't expect to see anything ..........guess it goes to show that you never know ! Only went because I can't hunt the rest of the weekend and figured I couldn't kill one sitting at the desk this morning !! Big Grin
