Thats interesting!  You prospect for gold?  Tell us more.  Couple of years ago there was a show on one of the outdoor channels on prospecting and another on gemstone mining.
Looked pretty interesting!

Yea I go up to a place in the San Gabriel mountains that holds some gold. IN mid 19th century there was a major gold rush up there and major mines were started up there. Some good money was made in those mountains. Today, there is not a lot of gold up there but there is some if you work at it. I just got into it because it's a great way to get outdoors and see some places with some rich history (excuse the pun haha). There is a community of miners who live up there in RV's and they are some real life gold miners. They are not rich by any means but they have some good stories and are actually pretty nice. I need to buy some basic equipment so that I can at least get a little bit of gold from there....

The shows I watched, the prospectors had some pretty neat equipment.  little portage one man slurries and raceways, small lawnmower engine powered underwater dredgers to vacuum upi the bottom of the stram bed and sent it to the raceway.  That system cost a tad but increased your thru-put by over 40 times according to the propaganda.
It all looked very interesting and fun.  Bet panning it is murder on your back though!
