i just watched dick metcalf run 10000 rounds through a dpms .223 without a malfunction, he had to stop a few times and as some lube but that was it, they fired it almost non stop, pretty impressed!

And pretty expensive,  I don't think I've fired 10,000 rounds in my life.

That's a bunch of rounds.
Did they use a drum type magazine or what?

Heck do the math   10,000 / 12hrs = 833.33 per hr
833.33 / 60 min = 13.88 a minute FOR 12 HOURS STRAIGHT!!!
I'd get bored in a hurry!!!

That is only 1 every 4 seconds.  That is a slow rate of fire for and AR.  I know I can shoot a 30 round clip in 10 seconds easily enough.

depends on whether you want a dropping barrel from the heat.  He probably shot fast enough that he could take breaks for the bathroom and to eat and stuff, and to let the barrel cool down.

I know in some of our live fire exercises in the Marines, you could cook off a couple hundred rounds in 5 minutes.  (of course we had full auto as well).

takes me longer than that to take a leak, certainly would't want to eat something greasy the night before. anyway its about the gun not the shooter. did they say anything about how they lubed it, or extraction problems.
