Let my kids take a "hooky" day today and we went coyote hunting - fresh 2 inches of snow!  Had them going right off the bat!  We hunt them with trailing hounds from pick-ups.  First wiley tried to hide out in a fence row, but the hounds found him.  made a good run on him, but he gave us the slip. 2nd one crossed the road right in front of us and Tucker got 3 shots at him, but missed.  Dad hadn't even uncased his rifle yet........ wanted to give him first try without competition...hahah.....

we ended up running about 6 coyotes and 2 foxes.  Tucker got shots at 3 different ones and the 3rd one was the charm.  I waited for what seemed like long time and he finally tells me to shoot cause he couldn't find his safety.  I missed and he got it!  Just prior to that my nephew rolled one but it got up and ran away.  When they got the hounds out, they picked up the scent of another one and bayed it up in an old abandon barn.  Tyler got quite a thrill out of that I guess as he got to go in the barn and see and hear the hounds have a time with the coyote.  Coyote finally decided that wasn't such a great place and took off.  My nephew was able to get Ty loaded up in the truck and make a run on him.  Tyler got him with 1 shot.  Tyler also missed a coyote his uncle put him right on and also missed a fox!  Just remember, these wiley's weren't sitting around for us to get a good shot off..... they were HIGH ROLLIN......... just the way we like it!!!!

So I was pretty proud they both got one on the same day!!!  Maybe sometime soon we'll all three get one on the same day!

Hunting with hounds is a lot of excitement. Sometimes it is more fun just to watch the dogs operate. Yes, tying shots at moving targets is not easy.
We hunt bushbuck like that in the thickly wooded Eastern Cape.

There is nothing better for me than being able to take my kids out, and share the outdoors with them. My oldest is looking forward to deer season already. I have to find other things for her to hunt to fill in the gaps.
