i got lazy on saturday, i was given a bunch of once fire 22-250 brass from a friend of mine. the primers had already been removed, but i figured i would double check the work with my fl die. i didnt bother to lube the cases up and the 4th one i ran through the die got stuck. normally i can just unscrew the expander and the decapping pin falls right out, didnt work that way this time. i ended up tapping and drilling the case and using my own stuck case remover and in the process i busted the expander. i just called rcbs and they of course said they would send me another one free of charge. i love rcbs.Excellent

I need to reinvest in some better dies. Looking at RCBS now but haven't pulled the trigger on any.  The lee's I have want to flare the case mount just a touch to much for my liking.

yup, i knew better, but i just wanted to verify my friends work. for the 30 seconds it would have taken me to use a little case lube, i could have saved myself the 30 min it took to get the case out of the die.

Pyro,

Have been down that road and finally found my cure.  Using Unique case lube........  I lube all case on the outside with just my fingers.  Now instead of using mica powder on the inside of the case necks, I hit every case neck (inside) with a Q-tip lightly coated in Unique.  I gently reload the Q-tip every 10 rounds, then quickly run the Q-tip inside each case.  I haven't stuck a case since and my reloads show no signs of any problems with what little residue there may be inside.  Life at the reloading bench has been much more productive since I made this switch.  Try it, and I bet your stuck case tool with gather cob webs!

if i would have taken the time to use any form of lube it wouldnt have happend.

problem with that is that rcbs already sells one, mine just uses stuff you would find in your garage.

I love RCBS dies, and Unique!  Yes Unique!  Easy to apply, Easy to wipe off.  Lube one every 5.

mine is way cheaper than that, assuming you have a tap and die set and a drill. with that being said, the rcbs set would require a drill too.

yeah im aware of that. redding makes nice stuff as well. my wifes cousin bought a set of 270wsm dies for his new rifle he got last year. im eager to try them out. the thing i liked about redding, is they send you spare pins where rcbs makes you call for them.

I made my own as well.  Worked well.  Threw the die with the stuck case in the freezer over night and I think that made it a bit easier to remove.
