Ive got a Barska 3-9x42 ridgeline scope and a cheap Centerpoint optics 4-16x40 scope. would either of these serve the purpose of a good rabbit etc... scope?  If not i need some suggestions.  It'll be mounted atop a Savage mod 93 .17hmr bolt action. I dont wanna spend too much.

Good? No. Adequate for those needs? Perhaps. If one fails mechanically in the middle of a hunt or costs you a squirrel in poor light, it's not a once-in-a-lifetime bighorn sheep or anything. If you mount one up and can get it zeroed okay, go out and have fun with it. That's the best way to learn, anyway.

It all depends on how much enjoyment you want to get out of the rifle. I'm thinking that if I had a .17hmr I would want a Bushnell 4200 4-16x40 scope on it and I know the scope cost as much if not more than the rifle but I get a lot of enjoyment out of being able to see the target well and the 4x end would be about right for hunting while the 16x end would be great on the bench. The scope has finger adjustable 1/8 moa clicks so you can dial in correction but I would rather have 1/4 moa clicks (just personal preference). Still I have one of these scopes and I think it would be ideal for a .17 and make the experience a lot of fun.

What about the Bushnell 6-18x50 dusk to dawn scope, or BSA Sweet 17 6-18x40 scopes.  Im thinking i want to buy something on here at a moderately reasonable price.  Bushnell has always made good products in my opinion but its been a long time since ive used one.  I've heard bad things about BSA generally but great things about the Sweet series of scopes.  Decisions, Decisions!  Looking to go long range for rabbit season, try something new!

I have a Simmons 22 Mag 3-9X32 (from SWFA) mounted on my Son's Savage .17HMR and it works great.  We have taken quite a few bushy tails with it!  I did notice that it looks like they have changed this scope and I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

Chris, do you have any info on the "new" 22 Mags?
