Just heard that our government has extended the amnesty period for people who have not yet registered their long guns for another year.

That should really make a difference to this useless piece of legislation.  Apparently an association of police chiefs across Canada supports the registry and says it is a useful tool for frontline officers.  I'm all in favour of protecting our police but anyone who thinks their safety is better served by the registry is dreaming.

Would you put your life on the line by relying on a bureauocratic computer system to tell you in what homes firearms are located if you were sent out on a domestic call?

The only safe mindset is to assume there may be firearms in any home/location  you visit.

God what a waste of money!  Politicians are a pain in the a$$.

Here in our little community a few years ago, a very highly respected, well thought of police chief went on a call... truant kids, loud music drugs, in a house on the main street. He knew the family personally, went in... told all the other officers to stay outside, walked up opened the door to a closet, and the kid blew the top of his head off.  Loss of a REALLY GOOD man, but for a few seconds, he went stupid.  He forgot/neglected one of the cardinal rules and paid with his life.  He knew the people pretty well, knew they owned guns, just didn't THINK.  No database on earth could have prevented it.

It's always good policy to hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.
