For those of you who don't know, Dad and I have an accounting business.  Nothing big, but it keeps us busy.  He is building an addition on to his house so this summer I have spent a lot of time over there (days and nights), pouring concrete, framing, roofing etc and tonight we will start putting in windows.  Today, the UPS truck pulls up.  Nothing new, stops a few times a week.  I thought perhaps my dies that I ordered were a day early.  As he walks up, I notice the box is way to big for dies.  He comes in and sets it down on the counter.  It is a Cabelas box.  Hmmm, Dad must have ordered something, not that unusual.  Sign and bring the box back to Dad.  He tells me to open it.  Fine.  Open it and it is 1k of .204 Win brass.  Dad don't have a .204.  All he says is thanks for the help on the house.  Makes for a really good day.

Darn right I said thanks.  Feels kind of like Christmas.  The size of the gift is not important, what it means and how much it is appreciated does.

What a great thank you!

How well do the reloads work in that .204?  I've been using Hornady ammo for mine and have been very pleased with it but have been considering testing some reloads.  I think this .204 has become my favorite caliber!

It worked a little differnt in my family.

Up until about 5-6 years ago my father used a Weaver K-4 steely on his Rem. .270 pump.  Dad will be 88 in Nov. so he is really "old school" i.e.  "them variables is unreliable son, they don't hit the same place from low power to high power, you can't trust em."  One evenin he comes over to my house and wants to know do I have a scope that is brighter with more magnification than his old Weaver.  It seems he has a buck that he keeps seeing in our soy bean field but it only comes out right at dark and it's always 300+ yds away (in Ark we have a mandatory 3-point rule state-wide) dad can't tell much about this buck.  He's pretty sure that he's good enough but wants to be sure.  I tell him I do but it's a variable.  He goes into the same tirade above again.  After he stops I tell him that a long time ago that was true but they fixed it years ago.  So he agrees to try the Nikon Monarch 3x9 that I just removed.  We mount it bore-sight it and off he goes.  He goes to the range the next day and sights it in.  2 days later I get a call, it seems the evening before that buck showed up again only now dad can see that he IS indeed good enough and he can see him well enough to drop him.  It a nice 10-point that now hangs in dad's living room.  As dad hangs up he tells me thanks for the early Christmas present, "huh?"  I think about all the shotgun and .22 shells dad provided when I was growing up, not to mention all the other things that dad's do, and I say "you're welcome".  You know, that was a good day too.

P.S. Dad's other rifle that also wore a Weaver K-4 steely now wheres a Nikon Monarch too.  Seems you can teach an old a new trick some times.

Scooter - haven't tried any reloads in my .204, but I'm sure I can find something it likes.  Reloads have help all of my rifles, Dad's and brothers.
