i have been researching scopes for 3 to 4 months now and cant quite narrow it down. i've read hundreds of forums and have decided on this one forum to join cause it seems like you guys know what your talking about. i have been shooting and hunting since i was little i've had numerous scopes but never spent alot of money on them. the last scope i bought was a redfield 4-12x50 and love it but its only good for me out to about 500 yds. i am looking for a scope to shoot out to 1000 yds accurately so at least up to 20 power with a yardage adjustment and i know about the leupolds and acog and those expensive ones. the gun that it will go on is a .308 savage 10 fp that i havent bought yet. thanks for the help

With a canted base this should be able to get you to the 1000yd line but without I don't see it having enough elevation travel as thats one of the biggest drawbacks to Nikon (there limited trave)
Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster Riflescope Mil-Dot Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster Riflescope
Stock # - NIK6469
  • Matte
  • Mil-Dot
  • 1"

$319.95

Optional Accessories:

Of Course the old reliable SWFA Super Snipers have plenty of travel to get you there and pass if you wanted.  Glass is more than adaquate.  I've used all three of the 10X, 16X, and 20X standard models.  For me the 16X was a great medium and worked better for me.

At an F-class event I was at a guy was using a Nikon with a standard base  but I think it was a Monarch. He may have been holding over as well didn't get all the details. Definitely want to have enough travel though I wouldn't want to have to holdover at that kind of yardage.

first time i've seen the swfa, the 20 power is probably shakey up close but the 16 might not be bad, and what are these events you speak of. i live in southeast ohio is there any around i can go watch.
