Does any one have any experience with the golden ring leupold binoculars? and why dont you hear much from them? I know the new 2005 golden rings bino's are coming soon, but if any one has any experience or information about the older golden ring I would really appreciate it.  And also to what brand you can compare these. I saw a pair of 8x32 for sale asking $499.99.  Do you think i can expect good quality. And do you think theyre better than the newer wind river binoculars?

I usually don't post unless I have had at least some experience with a product and I have not had any experience with Leupold Gold Rings or Wind Rivers.  I do remember though the older gold ring binos.  I have used and am a fan of Leupold rifle scopes.  The one area however that I think Leupold could improve is there glass.  Although the glass quality has always been very good it doesn't compare to European glass in clarity, sharpness or brightness.  Kind of a mute point in comparing riflescopes because European scopes are more than twice the price of a Leupold making Leupold a good value.  I only mention this because their older gold ring binos were expensive in the $700-$900 range if memory serves me.  To me top quality glass is more important in binos than it is in a rifle scope.  In my opinion why buy a pair of Gold Rings when you could buy a pair of Leica, Swarovski, or Zeiss for couple hundred more and get much better glass quality.  They may have been worth it if they had sold in the $400-$600 range.

This doesn't mean that the new Gold Rings will not be worth it.  I would give them a chance and judge them on their own merit.  They may have excellent optics for a very reasonable price.  Just my two cents.

I would love it if Leupold came out with an American made Binocular.  I would not hesitate to buy it based on the excellent quality that I have received from them in their rifle scope line.  I hope that they rival the Leicas and Swarovskis dollar for dollar.  I would hope that they produce more than the pitiful few that I have seen in the recent past.... They were 9X24 or something like that.  and small.  I want something that I can go after elk with and not be ashamed of using.  Something of a Steiner Predator and Zeiss cross.  Twist out eye cups and game enhanced coatings like what are on the Predators.

I have received a post from two of the Technical and product salespeople from Leupold and Stevens about their new Binoculars.  According to their own statements,  the new Leupolds are going to be MADE IN THE U.S.A. and they are going to be assembled here as well in their Portland, Oregon plant.   According to them they are going to be top of the line... Their own words were "The Best in the World."  Bar none.

When I pressed them for a time the best they would say was about mid May, or thereabouts.  They would not give me an MSRP, or tell me much more than that.
