I read an article a while back by an "optics editor" in a shooting mag about proper use of binoculars.  I'd read stuff previously by him that made a lot of sense.  I knew and agreed with most everything he wrote, and was interested to read his recommendation that eyeglass wearers should always remove their glasses when using binocs, because the view would always be better.  I can see OK without glasses; not good enough to drive very far, but good enough to see what I wanted to use binocs to see better.  The idea that I wouldn't have to worry about eye relief and rub the binocs all over my glasses to get a full field of view really sounded appealing.  I spent about half a day messing with this, and was never able to see as well through any of my binoculars with my glasses off.  This just didn't seem to be right, I should see better without an extra set of lenses in the way.  I tried again another day with the same result.  I couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I called my opthamologist.  He reminded me that glasses not only correct nearsightedness and farsightedness, but also astigmatism and other problems.  I have pretty bad astigmatism, and will always see through everything better with my glasses on.

Don't believe everything the "experts" write.

I thought your info was very interesting, the funny thing is I have an astigmatism in both eyes (worse in my left) & I ALWAYS use my binoculars without my eyeglasses. Obviously no two people are alike.
