I might be buying a new scope for my 270 wsm I have come to the conclusion instead of buy lots of rifles I will make the ones I have more functional and use ful and what not.

For this gun I am debating on ordering a Leupold 4.5-14-40 ao with the #4 ret or the zeiss conquest  4.5-14-44 with a similar reticle give me some constructive thoughts and info not just bandwagon info.  Dont suggest a 50mm or bigger bell I dont want it.  also on the leupy do I need or want the AO?

conquest is better glass, hands down
I have one
don't really "need" the AO in a big game rifle
some people argue against it but if you just set it to the average shot you might be taken it's really no different that a preset set scope

be sure to check out the 4a reticle, I have one in a Kahles and love it, bought another conquest with the same and found it TOO thick.. youmay of course think otherwise

be sure to buy from someone with a zero hassle return policy and don't mount it until you are sure you want it

I have that conquest on a .270 wsm. I set the parallax adjustment on the infinity mark and leave it for hunting. My average shots are 1-400 yards, and I never touch it. It seems to me the only time worth adjusting it is inside 50 yds. As far as the Conquest vs. Leupy, I'll take the Conquest any day of the week. Maybe twice on sunday! If you decide on the Zeiss you won't be dissapointed.

If I were to construct an "all around" gun, I would not choose a .270WSM.  You might want to consider something more generic.  A 30-06, though historic, is one of the most versatile rounds one can own.  For an all-around gun, it's tough to beat.  In a short-action, consider a .308; lots of bullet choices, lots of options, good terminal ballistics out to most usable ranges.

Get the Conquest, screw Leupold.

I appreciate your opinion but I have a 270 wsm and dont hunt anything larger than mule deer and the potential for reloadability in this round looks good to me.  I like flat shooting so I am going to load up some 110 grain x bullets and have fun.
