....still a little bored, so I decided to post a short video of a giant muley buck that we never have killed.  We only see him during the rut, after the season of course! Same ranch where my two 190" bucks and my neighbor's 190 and 200" bucks came from...........

Good lookin' deer, JG.

You really need a Tines Up adapter though.

You got that right!  Anything beats hand holding your camera up to your spotter, huh?  That deer was about 650 yards away.  That buck was a 8x7 last time we saw him.

JG,

Compare that video with the video on this thread on a bull about 1400 yards away.  A good adapter makes all the difference.

Of course, I am only pushing you into this for selfish reasons:  I want to see more of those Texas mulie giants!

That's pretty impressive.  I'll have to check into it.  In the meantime, here's another for you......

Very nice.
Mulies are my favorite big game to hunt.
Your very fortunate to have 200 class ones in your area. I have only shot 185 class gross but that is about it.

Very nice JG, those are some great bucks.

rustic,

185 gross is a monster deer just about anywhere.  Most people don't realize just how big a 170 mulie really is.  I would love to see a pic.  Which state did yours come out of?

I'd love to hunt those SD mule deer myself, and Bitterroot is right about the 170+ class bucks.  A 185 is a real bomber nowadays.

rustic,

Was it this one?

No offense, really, but I would have put him in the mid 160's.  A fine, fine SD trophy for sure, but 185" is a lot of bone.

Yes
I had him scored at a gun show he scored just over 185 gross and 167 something net. He is not wide at all 25 but, is tall(as tall as wide) and heavy(hand will not fit around bases) with deep forks being kinda lopsided plus junk thus the deductions.
I shot him on walk-in land in butte county. Second day of the season six miles in wish I would of have boned him out it was a three hour drag out.

Partner,

I hate to rain on your parade, but I love mule deer too much to let it go.

I think this is the first time I have used this emoticon, but here goes:

BS Flag

I have scored a bunch of mule deer, and that one doesn't cut the 180-plus mustard.  It doesnt' touch 25 wide outside either, unless there is a long horizontal kicker there somewhere.

You should put the tape on him yourself, that gunshow scoring guy didn't know his stuff.

rustic,

Again, I am not trying to talk down your trophy.  I am just trying to keep it on the level.  Like I said before it is a fine trophy and excellent mount.  It is just really easy to throw around numbers, especially for a guy scoring at a gun show.

A 160 deer is nothing to scoff at either, I have shot a few, in fact my avatar deer is a 168 gross deer, and I'm proud as punch of him.

Here is a 178 gross deer from my living room:

People guess him at 190 all the time.

A genuine 185 gross deer is HUGE.

Bitterroot
I just put a tape up to him gun show guy was fudging on width so most likely the other numbers are off.
Good eye he is only 23 3/8 so taller than wide.

Guess I screwed myself on paying to get him mounted. Live and learn

I don't think you screwed yourself at all.  I think he is an awesome deer, and many serious hunters won't ever get one that nice in their lifetime.  Droptines, even the short ones, are rare ... really rare.

That's a real nice buck.  I have one that is real similar to it, that I got in Bum F MT. He was the small one of the two, but by the time I got into position to shoot the larger one was long gone.  And since I might have well been on the other side of the moon I decided he was respectable enough to pack out.   I would have to dig out the score sheet to tell you exactly how he scored, but it was 160 something before deductions, 168 maybe? and after deductions it scored 140-150ish

Damn JG you make me feel bad about my Utah and WY Muleys even though both were free range and I am proud of them those are some nice ones. My Utah Muley is I belive 171. The Wyoming Muley I still don't have back, I can't wait to get him home. (He is still in Wyoming getting mounted.) We rough field scored and expect him to be in the 180s. He is Just as wide as the buck in the first picture with a lot better height and probably a tad less mass, not much though. I just don't have a straight on picture of him. A lion got to a nice 200"+ a few days before we got to the ranch. Here are pictures of them. First is my Utah Low 170s. Second is the Wyoming Muley in the 180s (Biggest I've ever shot) and last is the 200"+ they found dead from a Mountain Lion a few days prior to our arrival.

One day your life will flash before your eyes; Make sure it's worth watching.
