I have an Encore 460 S&W, 12 In. barrel. The only base / mount combo that would hold up so far is a Leupold DD. I decided to put a Sightron red dot on it but cannot because of the size of the scope,I.E., 33 MM. In order to mount this scope I would need a weaver style base, no problem here. Looking at the rings that come with the sightron make me wounder if they are stong enough, even with three rings, which Sightron offered to supply. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.My barrel is at T/C getting a muzzle tamer. I have been told that this is a bad choice for th 460. It seams some lens's have been damaged by the back blast.anyone here of this.

I would not be happy with the ring set up you have. It does not look very robust. There aren't other options from what I have seen.
The Muzzle Tamer isn't supposed to direct gases rearward. With the 12' barrel and the add on brake adds 1 1/8", there should not be a problem. Let us know if there is.
Do you have other sight options for the Leupy DD's?

At the present I am not aware of anyone that makes custom rings, or even if they would be allowed to . I will try a base made by Arthur Brown using three of sightron's rings. If this works, fine , if not I will have to find a 30 mm red dot. The sightron seams to be a step above any other I have looked at and I hope I can make it work. I will keep you informed.

Check J.D. Jones website for tsob mounts. bushnell and aimpoint dots run closer to 32, and their rings may fit. used an aimpoinnt quick release on a busnell because 1 in are too small.

I think I have the only other 33mm Tube optic out there.
My AR wears a Pride Fowler 33mm Red Dot. The mount rings it came with are un tested, but the optional mount I put it in is robust enough for use on a rifle, which is where it is mounted. the optic can be found at: http://www.rapidreticle.com/sopsauto.htm But you have to send a message to get the mount, for now. I actually found this forum while searching for a throw lever mount in 33mm, but it seems my search continues. Hope this is of some help. |

There's a product out there that uses weaver mounts made by Weigand. They make a base that is supposed to work on Ruger Super Redhawk. The make some different models for different guns. Not sure why Sightron uses the 33mm tube anyway. Sure makes it difficult to use their product.
