Hello everybody.
I'm looking at getting a Nightforce 5.5 X 22 for my Rem .223. I'd like to hear any pros and cons about this scope. I looked in the search but wasn't able to find my answer. Have a great day Dewayne |

great scope but you could get a Zeiss , Nikon, and mount them both for the same money.

nxs are pro grade, not a hobby scope, and as such about 10 oz heavier, the choice of reticles isn't touched by zeiss or nikon, and one of the main reasons to get one. don't have any cons but if you shoot alot and reload the nf will be a good purchase

Thanks for the input. I'm going with the 5.5-22x56 NXS with the CH-2 reticle.
Ya'll have a Happy New Years. |

Welcome arbullet! I own a NF 3.5-15X50 NXS with Mil Dot reticle and a 8-32X56 NXS with NP-R1 reticle and I am extremely pleased with them! They are great optically, adjustments are 100% reliable, they are built like a tank, and the reticle selection is without peer! The only negatives I have with them is that the whole eyepiece rotates with the power ring, the illumination control only has 1 brightness setting without unscrewing the knob and adjusting the rheostat to another intensity with a small screwdriver, and they don't have a first focal plane reticle option. I prefer the second focal plane reticle on the rifles I have them mounted to, which are used for long range benchrest and prairie dog shooting where I want to maintain the thinnest reticle possible, but it would be nice if they also offered FFP reticles as an option, which is a little more user friendly for tactical applications IMO.

Just to remind you, the CH-2 is made for high power competion. If you plan on shooting earth pigs long range, the dot MIGHT be too large, and cover the critter. I got a CH-3 on my BR model, but the weapon it sits on is for groundhog matches. (paper targets only)

I agree, seriously consider your intended application and then choose the reticle accordingly, you'll be alot happier with your scope purchase.

I have a Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 mounted on my .50 bmg and cant say enough good about it!Only cons are price ( but quality is there) and like was mentioned entire eyepiece turns making flip open covers hard to use.AND trouble is it spoils you for lessor glass......anyone wanna buy several Bushnell 4200's and Zeiss Conquests?

What are the magnifications of the Elite 4200's and the Conquest's. Also, PM me with prices. Thanks!

Nightforce is in my opinion the best value for the money. Optically @ 22x I found the samples (5.5-22x56) I have on par or better then the S&B 5-25x56 (or whatever the power was). I don't think you can get better quality, precision and customer service for the price of a Nightforce!

JoeP, Nightforce on par (optically) with S&B? Which S&B? I own Nightforce and USO and have used S&B and I can tell a definite difference in optical quality - granted, at better than 2X the price, I damn sure better be able to see it.
I love my Nightforce, it is a great scope that has never given me any trouble at all; however, it is not in the same league with S&B/USO, in my experience. But, by far, it is the best value in the upper-level optics world. Arbullet, enjoy it. Great scope, money well spent. Edited by Rancid Coolaid - May/08/2008 at 09:55 |
