I have Gamo Shadow 1000 airgun that I'd like to put a scope on.  The Range Officer where I shoot recommended a Bushnell Airgun Sportsman AO 3-9 x 32 (model 720039).  This would be at the top end of my price range.  Is there anything else I should be looking at that might be of similiar quality and less expensive?

Thanks, Jim

Look at my topic "Simmons Pro Air 4X AO?"  on this page. I am looking for a scope as well and there were a few suggestions listed there.

You will not find anything better than the Bushnell Sportsman 3-9x32 A/O.....$69.95 for less money or the same money.

The above mentioned Simmons Pro-Air scopes are considerably better for more money.

ONE QUESTION - What sort of power is your Gamo1000? - Here I know a few folk who've suffered SHATTERED reticles with Bushnell SPORTSMAN on GAMO!.   Look for a MOUNT with rubber damping blocks.

Thanks for the responses.

R7, Oddly I've just purchased 2 scopes for Deer hunting rifles where I would have been happy with a 4x fixed power scope, although I ended up with 3x9's, but in the case of the air rifle I wanted the variable power scope and the Simmons variables are way out of my price range.

Chris; Thanks, thats what I thought but I wanted some confimation.  I ended up getting the Bushnell and so far I'm very pleased with it.

Chris(madrid); The Shadow 1000 is a 1000 fps, spring air rifle.  Gamo makes air rifles up to 1250 fps but I believe any air rifle rated at 1000 fps or greater is considered a "Magnum AirRifle" and this Bushnell scope is specifically rated for this.  Perhaps some of the other Bushnell Sportsmen models are not, everyone I talked to said using a non-air rifle rated scope on a spring air rifle would ruin the scope.

Again, thanks for the help, this is my first high powered air rifle and I'm have a lot of fun with it and the new scope!
